17 Best Honeymoon Destinations in March

Trying to figure out where to honeymoon in March? I get that it can be an overwhelming process – especially when there are tons of amazing choices!
Classic honeymoon destinations like Maldives, the Caribbean and Mexico are lovely in March. There are also options for unique and more adventurous getaways, too.
So if you want help whittling down your list (or you’re not sure where’s good to travel at this time of year), I’ve got you! I’ve compiled the best honeymoon destinations in March – all you have to do is pick one 😉
So let’s get to it! From relaxing tropical getaways to city breaks and bucket list escapes, here are my favourite honeymoon destinations to get booking for March.
Best honeymoon spots in March
1 New Zealand

First on the list of March honeymoon destinations is New Zealand. If you’re an active couple and love adventure, this is a bucket list choice that’s deserving of the top spot!
March in New Zealand marks the start of autumn in the country and it’s a lovely time to visit. I was in New Zealand across February and March and it was perfect for hiking, exploring and taking in the best bits.
The temperature will vary across the two islands, but you can expect mostly sunny days with highs of 23ºC in Auckland or 19ºC in Queenstown. If you have several weeks for your honeymoon, it’s the perfect month for a road trip – especially as there are fewer crowds this month, too.
Where to stay: Stoneridge Estate
2 Mexico

Amazing food, sunny weather, white sandy beaches… Check, check, check! If you’re dreaming of a tropical paradise, Mexico is a brilliant honeymoon destination for March.
A traditional choice for a Mexico honeymoon is the country’s Caribbean Coast where you’ll find places like Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum. It’s also where there are incredible resorts with luxury options that are perfect for newlyweds.
March is easily one of the best months for staying in this part of Mexico. It’s when I visited and it’s part of the country’s peak, dry season so you can expect hot and sunny weather (30ºC) that’s ideal for a relaxing break.
Where to stay: Atelier Playa Mujeres
3 South Africa

South Africa is an incredible destination with so much to fall in love with. Safaris, beaches, winelands, culture… it’s one of those places with a bit of everything so it’s perfect for a once-in-a-lifetime escape.
Even though it’s the start of autumn in South Africa, March is still a fab time to visit. Cape Town is a great starting point for a March South Africa honeymoon. There are generally fewer crowds than in the peak summer season, as well as temperatures of around 26ºC.

March is also one of the best months for visiting the Cape Winelands when it’s harvest season. You’ll find gorgeous hotels and romantic scenery that’s perfect for a wine-tasting honeymoon.
Where to stay: Deux Frères Wine Estate & Luxury Villas
4 Italy

If you want a March honeymoon destination that’s all about romance, Italy might just be the one for you… This gorgeous country has so many beautiful settings with options that work perfectly for March.
Because March is before the main tourist season in Italy, I wouldn’t recommend coastal areas like Cinque Terre or Amalfi (a lot of places will still be closed for winter). However, Italy’s cities will be lovely this month!

Rome, Venice and Florence are the top three and are incredible choices if you love a city break. In March, you can expect cooler weather (around 12-16ºC) but also fewer crowds. It makes it a great time for exploring and having a more authentic experience.
Where to stay: Ricasoli Garden Relais
5 Maldives

There’s a reason why the Maldives is a perfect honeymoon destination. This Indian Ocean country is beautiful, romantic and has so many bucket list honeymoon resorts.
Luckily March is a great time to visit the Maldives when it’s still the country’s dry season. This means you can expect hot sunny weather for enjoying the beaches and the best of island life!
Across the Maldives, you’ll find the dreamiest places to stay in March. This is definitely one of the most premium choices, especially in the peak season. BUT, as it’s your honeymoon, it’s perfect for splurging on a five (or seven-star!) experience with an overwater villa or a private island retreat.

6 Egypt

If you want something a little different, Egypt could be the destination for you. It’s a country that’s thoroughly unique and has a real magic to it so it’s perfect for a one-of-a-kind African honeymoon.
Egypt is a great place to visit in March. During this month, temperatures start warming up but it’s not yet the unbearable heat of summer. You can still expect it to be hot (around 26-30ºC), and it’s much better for adventuring and taking in the attractions.
From the Great Pyramids of Giza to the temples of Luxor, there are so many fascinating sites to take in. It’s also an ideal month for a luxury Nile cruise or a sunny beach break in places like Sharm El-Sheikh or Hurghada.
Where to stay: Historia The Boutique Hotel Nile Cruise
7 Colombia

Colombia is a place with vibrant cities, beautiful scenery and amazing beaches. It’s a more adventurous choice than your typical honeymoon destination but it’s absolutely one to consider.
Cartagena is my top pick for a March honeymoon in Colombia – it’s a beautiful, lively and romantic city. You’ll also find boutique and luxury hotels that are perfect for newlyweds.
If you’re dreaming of tropical beaches, Colombia also delivers in March when you’ll get lovely sunny weather. You’ll find golden beaches in Tayrona National Park as well as paradise spots like Colombia’s Barú and Rosario Islands.
Where to stay: Hotel Casa San Agustin
8 Jordan

From snorkelling in the Red Sea to floating in the Dead Sea, visiting Petra and sleeping in the desert, you can look forward to so many amazing experiences if you honeymoon in Jordan in March!
March is a great time to visit Jordan as the country starts emerging from winter. It’s also one of the best months for visiting Petra. Temperatures are comfortable for exploring and there are fewer visitors this month, too.
If you’re dreaming of visiting the Wadi Rum desert, it will be around 20ºC in the day, but you’ll need to prepare for colder nights. You can also expect longer, spring days with temperatures of around 18ºC in Petra and 26ºC in Aqaba.
Where to stay: Wadi Rum Travel Camp
9 Caribbean

For a lot of couples, the Caribbean is an obvious choice for their honeymoon. It’s easy to reach from both Europe and the US and is a perfect place for a fly-and-flop getaway.
If that’s you and you’re dreaming of those palm-fringed beaches, you’re in luck because March is an amazing time to visit! Sitting in the region’s dry season, you can expect all the sunny and hot weather if you visit the Caribbean in March.
Across the Caribbean, there are loads of destinations that you could pick for your honeymoon. Each island offers something a little different, but some of my favourites are St Lucia, Jamaica and Barbados.

10 Costa Rica

With beautiful beaches, lush rainforests and incredible eco retreats, Costa Rica is an amazing honeymoon destination for nature lovers. It’s also one of the world’s happiest countries and known for its pura vida lifestyle, so it’s a fab place for a special vacation!
In March, Costa Rica is still in its dry season and it’s considered one of the driest months of the year. Coastal areas like Guanacaste see sunny temperatures in the 30ºCs in March so it’s perfect for a beach honeymoon. It’s also a good time for visiting the Caribbean coast when there’s less rain.
I also recommend heading inland for some of your honeymoon to Costa Rica. It’s where you’ll find luxury lodges and the most breathtaking natural scenery.
Where to stay: Nayara Tented Camp
11 United Arab Emirates

Whether you’re looking for a stopover for a multi-destination honeymoon or you want to spend your trip in one place, the UAE is a brilliant choice in March. With a desert climate, this destination is warm year-round, but March is ideal for avoiding sweltering heat.
Some of the top places for a honeymoon in the Emirates are Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah. If you want luxury, Dubai has to be a go-to, you’ll find so many gorgeous hotels as well as the ‘7-star’ Burj Al Arab if you want to go all out!
It’s also a fab destination for the beach and in March you can expect heavenly temperatures of around 28ºC.
Where to stay: Bab Al Shams
12 Spain

While much of Europe is experiencing cold temperatures in March, southern Spain and the Canary Islands are lucky exceptions.
On the mainland, Andalusia is always one of my top recommendations for a dreamy Spanish honeymoon. For a city break and culture, I love Seville, Cordoba and Granada. But you’ll also find beautiful beaches in places like Marbella, which see temperatures of around 18ºC in March.
The Canary Islands are also top honeymoon destinations in March. These lovely islands are mild at this time of year (low 20ºCs) so it’s perfect if you don’t like scorching temperatures but still want to relax on the beach or explore.
Where to stay: Seaside Grand Hotel Residencia
13 Thailand

I have no bad things to say about Thailand… If you want paradise scenery, fascinating culture and an amazing food scene, you can’t go wrong with a honeymoon to Thailand.
In March, Thailand is still in its dry season so you can expect lovely sunny weather. It’s one of the best months for heading to the islands and making the most of the beautiful weather, resorts and beaches.

Over on the mainland, places like Khao Sok National Park and Bangkok are also brilliant to explore in March. This month is one of the country’s hottest, so be prepared for temperatures in the 30ºCs. It’s also when it’s burning season in Chiang Mai, so keep that in mind when planning an itinerary.
Where to stay: The Retreat, Koh Chang
14 Philippines

The beaches in the Philippines are like something out of a dream. So if you’re wanting insanely beautiful scenery then this country could be your favourite for March!
March is part of the dry, peak season in the Philippines so it’s an ideal time to visit. The weather is also slightly hotter than the preceding months and there’s typically little rainfall. It makes it one of the best times for beach hopping!
My recommendation is to head to either Palawan or Boracay for a March honeymoon in the Philippines. Palawan is one of the best honeymoon destinations in Southeast Asia and is super pretty with turquoise waters, secluded sandy beaches and dramatic limestone cliffs.
Where to stay: Cauayan Island Resort and Spa
15 Japan

If you want culture, great food and lots of adventure, Japan is a brilliant honeymoon destination for March. Admittedly, it can be busy at this time of year, but there are still so many reasons to visit.
With loads to see, do and experience in Japan, it’s a fab choice for couples who want to make the most of their getaway. You’ll be able to take in the lights of Tokyo, soak up the culture in Kyoto and relax at onsen spas, too.
The draw of Japan in springtime is the transition into slightly warmer weather (around 14ºC in Tokyo). It’s also the start of the famous cherry blossom season! Typically, cherry blossoms start in late March… It’s impossible to predict exactly when it’ll be, but there’s a chance you’ll be lucky to experience it.
Where to stay: Park Hyatt Kyoto
16 Sri Lanka

If you can’t decide on a honeymoon destination, Sri Lanka is a great option that has a little bit of everything. From fascinating cultural sites to wildlife safaris, golden beaches and rolling rural landscapes, there’s loads to take in.
If you visit in March, you’ll also be blessed with hot and predominantly dry weather. The beach resorts on the south and west coasts in particular are fab in March – you’ll get sunshine and temperatures in the 30ºCs.
Elsewhere in the country, March is a lovely time for visiting Kandy and the tea regions while there’s lower rainfall and good temperatures. I also recommend a safari in Yala National Park where there’s a chance of spotting leopards.
Where to stay: Uga Chena Huts – Yala
17 Oman

Oman might not be the first destination you picture when thinking of honeymoons but it’s absolutely worth considering! This gorgeous country is unique and beautiful and has so much for newlyweds to fall in love with.
March is great in Oman if you want hot weather without the blistering summer temperatures. It’s especially good for the beaches in Muscat and Salalah where temperatures can be 26-30°C.
I also love the idea of a honeymoon retreat in the country’s Jebel Akhdar mountains. You’ll find luxury, remote resorts and, in March, it’s when roses are in full bloom in the region so it’s even more romantic!
Where to stay: Alila Jabal Akhdar
Honeymoon destinations in March – Final thoughts
There are so many romantic getaways in March. If you want a traditional beach honeymoon in the Maldives or the Caribbean or you’re planning something a little different – there’s a perfect destination for you this month.
You’ll also find lots of places to suit different budgets. The Philippines and Colombia are surprisingly affordable honeymoon destinations in March, and you’ll also find ultra-luxury options if you want to splash out.
So no matter your honeymoon style or budget, there’s tons of choice. I hope this post helps you book your dream trip!
