Have you been thinking about island hopping with Awesome Adventures Fiji? If so, this is the review for you!
When I first visited Fiji, I travelled with Awesome Adventures. In my opinion, it’s a brilliant way to explore Fiji in a hassle-free way. But I totally get that it can feel confusing knowing which package or pass to book and what exactly you can expect when you get there.
So if you want to know if Awesome Adventures Fiji is the best option for your dream trip – I’ve got you covered!
In this Awesome Adventures Fiji review, I’ll take you through everything you need to know – including the pros and cons of their packages, as well as my personal experience.
⭐️ Want to get booking ASAP? I recommend Awesome Adventures’ 7-day Coconut Cruiser package for the easiest way to explore
What is Awesome Adventures Fiji?
Awesome Adventures Fiji is a travel company that specialises in island hopping experiences across Fiji’s Yasawa Islands. They’ve been running trips since 2002 and offer transport passes as well as inclusive packages that combine accommodation, transport and activities.
The brand is part of the award-winning South Sea Cruises Group, which is one of Fiji’s leading tourism companies. Apparently, over a third of all international visitors use a South Sea Cruises product when they visit Fiji so it’s a legit and reputable company to book through!
Who is Awesome Adventures Fiji for?
One of the great things about Awesome Adventures Fiji is that it caters to a ton of different travellers. So even though a lot of budget backpackers use the company it’s also a good choice for couples and honeymooners.
When I travelled with Awesome Adventures I was on a solo trip but I wouldn’t hesitate to book the same trip as a couple. Even though most travellers were younger backpackers, it’s possible to upgrade your package from dorm-style accommodations to private bures so you can still get that premium or more romantic experience!

How does Awesome Adventures Fiji work?
Awesome Adventures Fiji offers a choice of inclusive self-guided packages and more flexible hop-on-hop-off travel passes.
There are five packages you can choose from, ranging from 4 to 12 days. I personally think these packages are the best option if you want everything sorted in the simplest way. The itineraries include pre-paid accommodation, vessel transfers on the high-speed Yasawa Flyer catamaran, and a selection of the best activities.
Each of the five inclusive packages includes a day pass to Malamala Beach Club, too! You can add this to the start or end of your trip.
Just be aware that these packages aren’t an escorted tour. It’s simply a done-for-you, pre-planned itinerary with accommodation and inclusions. So if you want a small group tour – this might not be for you. BUT, if you want to save time working out all the logistics, it’s a great choice!
I chose to travel on the 12-day Fiji Explorer package but if you want a more flexible option, Awesome Adventures Fiji also offers two types of travel passes – the Awesome Pass and the Bula Pass.
These passes are a hop-on-hop-off boat pass through the Yasawa Islands region and they range from 5 to 15 days. It’s a great option if you want to design your own itinerary or travel at your own pace.
The Bula Pass is the most basic option and only includes transfers. I generally wouldn’t recommend this because it’s a good idea to book your accommodation in advance. So if you’d prefer a pass over a package, I’d go for the Awesome Pass which includes pre-paid accommodation.
With this option, you can select the resorts / islands you want to stay at as well as your preferred number of days/nights. You can also choose the level of accommodation that you want.
Awesome Adventures packages vs passes
Awesome Adventures | Inclusive Packages | Flexible Passes |
---|---|---|
Overview | Pre-paid packages covering accommodation, activities & transport | Flexible transport passes (Awesome Pass includes pre-paid accommodation) |
Transport | Includes all transfers on the Yasawa Flyer | Yasawa Flyer transport between islands is covered |
Accommodation | Accommodation is pre-booked for set resorts (options range from dorms to private bures) | Transport-only Bula Pass excludes accommodation; Awesome Pass includes pre-paid accommodation – either dorm, bure or upgraded bure |
Meals | Meals are not included – a compulsory daily meal plan needs to be paid on arrival at each resort | Meals are not included – a compulsory daily meal plan needs to be paid on arrival at each resort |
Activities | Many activities and excursions are included | Activities are not included but can be booked directly at each resort |
Duration | Packages are available from 4 to 12 days | Passes range from 5 to 15 days |
Which option is better?
Whether you go for an inclusive package or a pass will depend on your travel style and how much time you want to explore.
When I visited, I wanted the easiest option so the inclusive package was perfect for me. It meant that I didn’t have to worry about any of the logistics and knew I’d be getting to experience all the best places and things.
At the time, I was unfamiliar with Fiji so I wasn’t sure where I wanted to go – I just trusted that a package would take me to the most beautiful places and would save me figuring it out for myself!
I have zero regrets booking the package option. I loved every island I visited and the activities were all amazing.
Having since spoken to the team at Awesome Adventures, I found out that the 7-day Coconut Cruiser package is the company’s most popular option. So if you want the easiest, done-for-you option – this is definitely what you want to book!
That said, if you have a specific resort you want to go to or you want longer at certain places, I recommend the Awesome Pass.

Awesome Adventures Fiji: What to expect?
Vessel transfers
Whether you go for an inclusive package or a hop-on-hop-off pass, you get all your transport between island resorts included in the price.
You’ll travel on the high-speed Yasawa Flyer catamaran. The boat leaves at 8.45am every day from Port Denarau and stops at each island resort before heading back to the mainland.
I actually loved the journey on the Yasawa Flyer because the scenery is so pretty. It was a big highlight just taking in the views as we travelled through the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands 😍
The ferry has an outside deck which was my favourite place for the best views. There’s also the option to upgrade to the Captain’s Lounge on some packages. This is an air-conditioned, private deck where you get complimentary snacks and drinks. I didn’t do this so I can’t say whether it’s worth it but it might be a nice option.
Packages and passes also include free coach transfers to and from Port Denarau from most nearby hotels. This makes it sooo much easier because you’re taken exactly where you need to go!

Accommodation
If you’re choosing one of Awesome Adventures Fiji’s inclusive packages, you have a slightly more limited choice over your accommodation options. However- all the places I stayed at on the 12-day package were lovely so I wouldn’t say this is a massive problem unless you have your sights set on somewhere specific!
Accommodation across each package is broken into regions across the Yasawa and Mamanuca chain and you’ll be placed wherever has the best availability for your travel dates and your chosen room category (e.g. dorm or a private room).
The resorts you stay at aren’t owned by Awesome Adventures and some can be a little basic. If you go for the cheapest dorm option, you’ll generally stay in unisex rooms with shared bathroom facilities. I chose this option simply because I was travelling solo and wanted a more social experience.. but obviously you won’t want this if you’re on honeymoon!
The accommodation was pretty simple but perfectly acceptable. However, a dorm room wouldn’t be my choice if I visited again – I’d much prefer the upgraded option next time 😍

If you choose the private accommodation option you’ll stay in traditional Fijian bures (which are essentially cute private bungalows). These are usually set in tropical gardens close to the beach and often have a private ensuite as well as a fan or air-conditioning.
You shouldn’t expect complete luxury or the most modern, five-star amenities but honestly, this accommodation in Fiji is a DREAM if you love the laid-back island life! I loved waking up to the sounds of the sea and being able to sit on the beach every morning.
If you’re worried about the standards of accommodation, it’s possible to book a bure upgrade if you’re travelling on the Awesome Pass. In this case, the bures are a higher grade and often right on the beach.
Resorts you could stay at
If you’re choosing one of Awesome Adventures’ inclusive packages, you’ll be able to stay at some of the following resorts.

South Sea Island
South Sea Island is one of the closest islands to Port Denarau and only takes 30 minutes to get to. It’s a TINY, white-sand island surrounded by crystal-clear waters and coral reefs.

Barefoot Kuata Island Resort
Barefoot Kuata Island Resort is at the gateway to the Yasawa Islands and is surrounded by a marine sanctuary. It’s a beautiful resort and also where you can swim with sharks!

Octopus Resort
Octopus Resort is a popular resort in the Yasawa Islands. It’s set on a beautiful beach and has a protected reef just a few metres from the shore. It’s also a good family-friendly option!

Mantaray Island Resort
Mantaray Island Resort is a paradise place to stay. It’s where you’ll find some of the best snorkelling as well as more than 40 local dive sites. It’s also where you can swim with manta rays.

Barefoot Manta Island Resort
Barefoot Manta Island Resort was one of my favourites – it has the most amazing location with three beautiful beaches. It’s also one of the best-located resorts for swimming with manta rays and is the only resort in Fiji with a dedicated Marine Conservation Centre.

Blue Lagoon Beach Resort
Blue Lagoon Beach Resort is a super pretty four-star option surrounded by colourful reefs. This resort also has a strong connection with the local village of Nacula so it’s great for an authentic experience.

Nanuya Island Resort
If you’re travelling from April 2025, you’ll be able to stay at Nanuya Island Resort, which is surrounded by paradise scenery and powdery beaches. It’s a tropical retreat that’s perfect for relaxing!
If you’re creating your own itinerary with the Awesome Pass, you’ll be able to choose from the above resorts, as well as a few others, including Paradise Cove Resort and Oarsman’s Bay Lodge!

Activities
Activities are included in Awesome Adventures’ inclusive packages. If you’ve chosen a pass instead, you can book activities at your resort but I liked knowing I had everything paid in advance.
Fiji definitely isn’t boring so there are tons of activities you can try out. Some of my favourites were snorkelling with reef sharks, swimming with manta rays and visiting the Sawa-I-Lau Caves. I also loved visiting a local village and taking part in a kava ceremony.
I also found that having activities booked made the trip seem like more of an adventure. Because even though I’ll never complain about relaxing in a hammock, it was nice to have extra things to see and do!

Pricing + value for money
Fiji isn’t the cheapest place to travel to. BUT, I promise it’s worth it 😉
One of the big costs of a trip to Fiji is the transport between islands. So if you’re choosing to go island hopping rather than sticking to one resort, it will increase your costs.
That said, choosing an inclusive package can be good if you want to plan ahead and know exactly what you’ll be spending on your trip.
After I’d paid for the package, everything was covered so I didn’t need to worry about extra money for activities or accommodation.
Meal plans
One thing to be aware of is that most resorts in Fiji have compulsory meal plans. When I booked my Awesome Adventures trip, I was able to pay for this in advance with my package cost.
However – from April 2025, you have to pay for your meal plan directly at each resort so you’ll need to budget for this separately.

Awesome Adventures Fiji Review: Pros + Cons
I want to keep my reviews as transparent as possible so there are pros as well as cons to consider before booking this trip.
Pros
What I liked about Awesome Adventures was that I could have everything booked in advance and didn’t have to worry about the logistics of sorting everything individually.
When you’re visiting multiple islands over a short period of time, it can definitely feel overwhelming so choosing a package took a lot of the hassle out. It also meant I could focus more on simply enjoying it all!
I found the transport was reliable (even on Fiji time!) and it was easy to understand the timetable and get from place to place.
Also, many of the island resorts in Fiji are small so they often get booked up. I liked knowing that with an Awesome Adventures package my accommodation was sorted in advance.
Plus it’s good that you can upgrade your accommodation so you’re not stuck staying in dorms.. It means it’s still a brilliant option for couples!
If you want to have a little more flexibility, you also have the option of creating your own itinerary with one of the passes. This is probably what I’ll do next time so I can pick my favourite places to stay.

Cons
If you choose a package, you have a more limited choice of resorts you can stay at. I didn’t find this to be too much of a problem because I loved all the places already on the itinerary. However, if there’s a specific resort you want to stay at that’s not on the list, you might want to choose a different option or create your own travel pass.
Awesome Adventures can also be a more expensive way of exploring Fiji. It’s not exactly the company’s fault but island hopping is definitely a premium option – especially if you’re upgrading to private accommodation.
I have also seen reviews online that say the communication from Awesome Adventures isn’t great and a few people have run into difficulties with their booking. So even though I didn’t have a problem with this, it’s always worth doing your own research to see if this is the right option for you!
Awesome Adventures island hopping: FAQs

What should I bring island hopping?
You’ll want to pack light if you’re island hopping in Fiji – I definitely overpacked and didn’t need half as much as I’d taken with me! The main things to remember are swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen and insect repellent. It’s also a good idea to have a dry bag for your valuables as well as a power bank charger.
How long does it take to get from Port Denarau to the Yasawa Islands?
The time will vary depending on the resort you’re staying at. The closer islands / resorts (like Barefoot Kuata) take around 1 hour 45 but it’s 5 hours to get to the northernmost Yasawa Islands and resorts.
What is Awesome Adventures’ luggage allowance?
There’s limited space on the boat between islands so luggage is restricted to one carry-on bag and one bigger bag that weighs up to 25kg. If you’re visiting Fiji’s islands, I recommend a backpack rather than a suitcase.
Is Awesome Adventures an escorted tour?
Nope, Awesome Adventures isn’t an escorted tour – the inclusive packages and passes are all self-guided. Instead of a small-group tour, they’re simply a done-for-you package that sorts the logistics for you.
Is Awesome Adventures Fiji good for a honeymoon?
Awesome Adventures can be a great option for honeymooners who want to go island hopping. With all packages, and with the Awesome Pass, you can choose to stay in private accommodation and you get taken to the most beautiful destinations – what’s not to love!

What is the most beautiful island?
All the islands in the Mamanuca and Yasawa region are so so beautiful. My favourite when I visited was Drawaqa Island. You can stay at Barefoot Manta Island Resort.
What is the most luxurious island resort?
Some of the accommodation options are relatively basic but still super beautiful. However, if you want a premium or more luxury experience, I’d recommend planning your itinerary with an Awesome Pass.
You’ll be able to choose resorts like Coconut Beach Resort, Blue Lagoon Beach Resort and Oarsman’s Bay Lodge with an upgraded bure option.
Some of my absolute favourite Mamanuca and Yasawa Island resorts aren’t available through Awesome Adventures – these include Tokoriki Island Resort, Six Senses Fiji and Turtle Island. They’re great options for a luxury honeymoon.
Is island hopping better than a one-island stay?
If you want to maximise your trip and experience more, I highly recommend island hopping in Fiji! However, if you’ve been to Fiji before or you want a super chilled vacation where you don’t have to move around or do a lot, you might want to stay at one island resort.
If that’s what you prefer, you can check out my favourite Yasawa Island resorts and Mamanuca Island resorts here. There are also a few resorts that you can book directly through Awesome Adventures’ island stay packages which includes your transfers.
What is the best time to visit Fiji?
It’s best to visit Fiji between May and October when it’s the dry season – you’ll get minimal rainfall and lovely temperatures around 25 to 30°C. I visited in July and it was perfect for island hopping and activities like snorkelling and swimming with manta rays.

Should I book in advance?
If you’re planning a big trip, I always recommend booking in advance to secure your accommodation. Many of the island resorts in Fiji are small and get filled up in advance in the peak season so you’ll want to book early to avoid disappointment!
Verdict: Is Awesome Adventures Fiji worth it?
I had a brilliant time with Awesome Adventures and absolutely recommend it if you’re planning an island hopping trip in Fiji. As I mentioned, I travelled with an inclusive package and found it took the hassle out of organising everything individually myself.
Everything was easy to understand, the transfers were reliable and the islands I visited were unbelievably beautiful. It was an incredible experience and I have no complaints.
If I was to visit Fiji again, I would absolutely use Awesome Adventures again. However, next time, I’ll probably go for a custom itinerary with the Awesome Pass so I can pick my favourite islands and upgrade my accommodation 😍
That said, it’s worth keeping the pros and cons in mind and thinking about your individual travel style before you book anything. For example, if you want a more social experience, you might prefer an escorted tour or something like a small-ship island hopping cruise instead.
However, if you want an easy-to-plan option that still has an element of independence, you’ll probably love Awesome Adventures. Particularly if you want everything sorted and paid in advance (and you don’t want to worry about figuring out where to go and what to do), a package like the Coconut Cruiser will be a good bet.
If you do book or if you’ve travelled with Awesome Adventures before – I’d love to know how you get on! Drop me an email or leave a message over in our Facebook group! I hope this post helps you book your dream trip!
