If you’re dreaming of a European honeymoon, September is an amazing time to visit Italy. There aren’t many places that epitomise romance like Italy, so it had to be first on my list of the best honeymoon destinations in September!

There’s so much to love about Italy – from its culture and friendly locals to incredible food and breathtaking scenery. No matter your interests, there’s something you’ll enjoy in this destination.

September is one of the best times to visit Italy. Falling just outside the peak summer season, Italy in September is slightly less busy than July or August and you’ll still be able to make the most of everything the country has to offer. 

Whether you want to hit the beach at romantic Italian spots like Positano on the Amalfi Coast, go hiking in Cinque Terre or visit the beautiful cities of Venice, Florence or Rome – September is the ideal time to visit.

2 France

Like Italy, beautiful France is a gorgeous destination for a romantic European honeymoon. Across the country, there are so many spots for a dream honeymoon – with different regions that are great for different interests.

As Europe is at its best in September, France is no exception. If you’re dreaming of Provence and the French Riviera with its gorgeous beaches in Nice, St Tropez or Cannes – September ticks the right boxes. 

This is a fab destination for a luxury Mediterranean honeymoon. In September, the weather is still warm on the coast, yet there are fewer crowds than you’d find in the height of summer.

September is also a great month to visit Paris. There’s no ‘bad time’ to visit Paris, but if you visit in September you’ll likely get lovely mild temperatures that are perfect for exploring or relaxing with a drink at an outdoor terrace.

3 Mauritius

It doesn’t take a lot of convincing to go to Mauritius. With powdery white-sand beaches, swaying palm trees and warm turquoise waters, this is a paradise destination that’s a favourite with honeymooners!

September is a great time to visit Mauritius. It’s one of the island’s driest months and the weather is warm and sunny (around 25°C).

This means you’ll have plenty of time for enjoying the best beaches and activities without unbearable heat!

As a tropical island that’s a little more built-up, Mauritius is also a brilliant choice if you want an exotic beach getaway, but still have lots to see and do.

As a lush paradise, you’ll be able to take part in lots of nature activities, too – like visiting the stunning Black River Gorges National Park.

Mauritius is also a fab place to combine with another destination. You could consider a South African safari first, followed by a week on the beach in Mauritius. It’s one of my favourite options if you want the best of both worlds!

4 Canada

If you want adventure on your honeymoon, you’ll want to consider Canada. This country has so much to offer and is a brilliant choice for a bucket list escape.

Canada’s western provinces like British Columbia and Alberta are my recommendations for a dream honeymoon in September.

It’s here that you’ll find some of the world’s most jaw-dropping landscapes with romantic mountains, lakes and wild forest scenery in places like Banff National Park.

Hiring a car is a good option for a Canadian road trip honeymoon in September. You could start in Vancouver before heading into the Canadian Rockies. 

As September marks the start of autumn, you’ll have relatively cool but pleasant daytime temperatures, fewer crowds and a peep at some pretty fall scenery!

5 Indonesia

Even though most of Southeast Asia is generally wet in September, Indonesia is a lucky exception!

Unlike other honeymoon destinations in Asia, this beautiful country has its dry season from May to October – making it perfect for a September honeymoon.

Bali is the most popular choice for a honeymoon in Indonesia. It’s a gorgeous destination with some of the world’s dreamiest honeymoon resorts and villas. Bali is also a destination that has a ton to offer so it’s great if you want some added adventure and bucket list attractions.

As well as relaxing at a five-star hotel, getting spa treatments and lounging at the beach, you’ll be able to explore cultural sites, visit markets or go volcano trekking, too.

If Bali doesn’t appeal because of its crowds, there are other places like Bali in Indonesia – such as Sumba Island or Lombok. These offer similar vibes to Bali but are more authentic and currently less touristy.

6 Greece

As one of Europe’s sunnier spots, Greece is an amazing honeymoon destination in September.

It’s still considered the peak season, but it’s a month when crowds are starting to thin and you’ll still be blessed with sun-kissed weather.

There are so many dream honeymoon destinations to choose from in Greece. The Cyclades Islands like Santorini and Mykonos are great to explore or island hop at this time of year.

You could also head to Crete where you’ll have loads to see and do. It’s a brilliant island for couples with itchy feet!

As well as beach days and boat trips, you’ll be able to visit historical sites and go hiking through some of the prettiest landscapes.

7 Zanzibar (Tanzania)

Compared to some other Indian Ocean islands, Zanzibar is a little more rustic, but it’s a really romantic destination that’s becoming a lot more popular with honeymooners.

With sugar sand beaches, palm trees and dazzling turquoise waters, it’s not hard to see why this is a gorgeous destination for couples. It has so much to brag about!

As one of the top honeymoon destinations in September, you’ll be blessed with sunny, dry and idyllic days if you visit this month. 

Obviously, this makes it a brilliant choice for beach lovers and sun seekers. You’ll be able to spend your honeymoon lounging on tropical beaches and snorkelling.

You’ll also be able to take a romantic sunset cruise or picnic on a pristine sandbank.

Zanzibar is also an ideal option for a multi-destination honeymoon. Thanks to its location, you could easily combine Zanzibar with a dream safari honeymoon in Tanzania.

8 Fiji

If all you want to do is relax in the sun and make the most of the islands’ amazing coral reefs – September is the perfect time to visit.

Sitting in the country’s dry season, a September honeymoon to Fiji will boast glorious sunny days and temperatures of around 27°C.

There are loads of luxury island resorts in Fiji that are amazing for a honeymoon – think overwater bungalows, private pools and villas that are steps away from the sea.

Even though it’s renowned for its idyllic beaches, there are so many fun and romantic things to do in Fiji that you’ll never be short of incredible experiences. It’s also an amazing destination for island hopping if you want to take in even more of this incredible country.

9 Malta

September is a month where you’ll likely see daily averages of 26-28°C, with plenty of sunshine stretching into the evening.

It’s also when tourist numbers start to dwindle so it’s the best time to make the most of this beautiful country.

For a small destination, there’s loads to see and do in Malta. If you want to go snorkelling, take a boat tour or kick back on one of the island’s beaches, Malta has you covered!

You can also explore gorgeous historical gems like Mdina, as well as visit the enchanting capital of Valletta.

Plus, Malta is an exceptionally photogenic destination with charming fishing villages and dramatic coastal scenery.

10 South Africa

South Africa is one of those countries that boasts a lot. It’s a honeymoon destination that offers so many bucket list experiences – from epic road trips to once-in-a-lifetime safaris at the most incredible lodges.

Because South Africa is such a vast country, its climate varies across regions. However, if you’re dreaming of a safari honeymoon, South Africa in September ticks the right boxes!

Greater Kruger is one of the best safari spots in Africa and September is one of the best times to visit. This is when it’s the park’s dry season and it’s a brilliant time for spotting the Big 5.

If wildlife is your thing, South Africa’s southern coast is also a great place to visit in September.

During this month, you can catch whale season along the Garden Route. Plus, it’s a scenic time when wildflowers are in bloom on the west coast.

September is one of the best months to visit Morocco. It’s a great option for a warm-weather honeymoon with sunny temperatures and little rain. 

There are different areas that you could visit in Morocco on your honeymoon. For some, it might be too hot in parts of the country (especially inland desert areas), but it’s a brilliant time for heading to the mountains or the coast.

You’ll also want to visit Marrakech in September – it’s a magical city that has so much to explore.

12 Rwanda

If you’re wildlife lovers and want a unique African honeymoon – Rwanda needs to be on your list. This is a bucket list country that has sensational wildlife activities as well as brilliant luxury hotels.

If you visit in September, you’ll catch the country at the end of its peak, dry season so it’s a perfect time for an outdoorsy honeymoon. 

Known as the land of a thousand hills, Rwanda is a picturesque destination and a super choice for eco lovers. You’ll find rolling hills and lush forests, as well as lakes, volcanoes and sweeping savannah.

The big draw of Rwanda is its mountain gorilla trekking, which is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It’s definitely a higher-end honeymoon option for September, but it’s one that will be worth every penny!

13 Australia

If you’re lucky enough to have several weeks off for your honeymoon, you’ll definitely want to consider Australia. It’s an amazing destination that offers so many incredible experiences for couples.

September is a brilliant time to head down under – it’s when I visited Australia and the spring weather was perfect!

As a huge country, you won’t be able to fit in everything on your honeymoon, but you’ll still be able to enjoy a lot of this beautiful destination.

If you’ve never been before, my recommendation is to start in Sydney or Brisbane before heading north to some of the more tropical parts of the country (like Cairns and Daintree).

Australia’s Whitsunday Islands blew me away and are incredible for honeymooners, too. You’ll find the most pristine beaches as well as first-class snorkelling and diving along the Great Barrier Reef.

14 Croatia

There’s a reason why Croatia has become such a popular European destination. This romantic country is bursting with charm and is lovely for a honeymoon!

A lot of Croatia’s main tourist spots are super busy in the peak summer season, so September is a great time to visit when some of the crowds are starting to thin.

You’ll also benefit from warm, sunny weather that’s ideal for sightseeing, island hopping, swimming and hiking.

Some of the best places to visit in Croatia include Split, Rovinj and Korčula. Hvar island should also be on your radar – it’s known for its luxury hotels, beach bars and picturesque natural scenery.

Dubrovnik is another honeymoon favourite and September is a fab time to visit when it’s a little less busy than in the summer months.

15 Kenya

For that reason, Kenya HAD to be included as one of the best honeymoon destinations in September!

Not only is this one of Africa’s premier safari destinations, but September is one of the best months to witness the incredible Wildebeest Migration in the Masai Mara.

There’s so much to love about a regular safari, but with the added migration, it’ll be even more special. It’s an amazing opportunity to do something truly unforgettable on your honeymoon.

16 French Polynesia

If the main priority for your honeymoon is relaxing in paradise, you can’t go wrong with a September honeymoon in French Polynesia.

It’s a destination that’s often compared with the Maldives but, unlike the Maldives, French Polynesia is in its dry season during September.

Bora Bora is the country’s main honeymoon spot. This is where you’ll find a lot of the high-end, vision board resorts with dreamy overwater villas. It’s an incredible destination for a once-in-a-lifetime island experience.

17 Norway

September is a wonderful time to visit Norway when the summer crowds have started to leave.

There are still long hours of daylight and the weather can be pleasant (although it varies a lot across the country), so it’s perfect for exploring. You could also catch the beginnings of fall foliage!

As one of the world’s best ecotourism destinations, a honeymoon to Norway will be focused on the great outdoors.

You’ll find some of the world’s most dramatic, unspoiled landscapes with fjords, glaciers and national parks. If you love nature, it’s a unique, picture-perfect honeymoon destination.

18 Hawaii (USA)

There are lots of places in mainland USA that are incredible in September, but Hawaii is my favourite state to mention.

As a glorious Pacific Ocean destination, Hawaii is a paradise gem that’s an obvious choice for a honeymoon!

If you want all the tropical vibes, September is a great time to visit Hawaii. The weather is hot and ocean temperatures are perfect for swimming. 

Even though it’s hurricane season and slightly rainier than previous months, this shouldn’t put you off. September isn’t unbearably wet and hurricanes are generally rare in Hawaii.

As one of the world’s most photogenic locations, Hawaii has incredible natural scenery to explore on your honeymoon. Sweeping golden sands, lush rainforests and jaw-dropping scenery are all part and parcel.

If you want to go island hopping and see as much as possible, you could visit a few of Hawaii’s islands in September. 

If you want the prettiest islands, Oahu and Kauai are usually considered the best. Kauai has impressive wild scenery and can feel a little more secluded so it’s ideal for a peaceful honeymoon.

19 Turkey

Thanks to its location, Turkey is a brilliant honeymoon destination in September with balmy days that still feel like summer.

It’s also a country that has a little of everything so it’s great if you want to mix things up and add in some honeymoon adventure.

For beach and nature lovers, the Turkish Riviera is magical in September. The days are hot at around 29°C so you’ll be able to make the most of the glorious beaches and water activities.

It’s also a nice time for hiking – the Lycian Way is absolutely stunning!

Elsewhere in Turkey, you could explore Istanbul for a unique city honeymoon. Or head to the Cappadocia region for romantic, fairytale landscapes.

September is a brilliant time to make the most of the setting when the weather is generally warm and dry – perfect for those hot air balloon rides!

20 Spain

It’s not hard to see why so many people love Spain for their honeymoon. This beautiful country boasts a variety of spectacular settings.

As well as vibrant cities like Barcelona and Seville, you’ll find beautiful natural scenery, picturesque islands and sweeping golden beaches.

Spain is a brilliant destination during many months of the year, but September has to be a top pick. This is a month that’s at the end of the peak season and is quieter than the summer rush of July-August.

September is also still hot in most regions – especially the Canary Islands, Balearics and the southern mainland where temperatures can be 25-30°C.

If you’re dreaming of a relaxed beach honeymoon, you really can’t go wrong with Spain in September. And if you want more to see and do, Spain ticks the boxes, too. 

Depending on where you pick for your honeymoon, you’ll be able to go hiking, explore picturesque villages, take in cultural landmarks, as well as see the sites on a sunny city break.

21 Portugal

Portugal is also an amazing destination for city, culture and nature lovers. I highly recommend visiting Lisbon if you head to Portugal!

It’s a romantic capital that has so much to offer. The Alfama district and nearby Sintra are gorgeous spots to explore.

Further north, Porto is another city that’s amazing for a September honeymoon. It’s a really pretty setting for a leisurely city honeymoon and a great base to visit the Douro Valley.

If you want to go wine tasting or simply enjoy the stunning scenery, you’ll love the Douro Valley in September!
