Best 10 Day Italy Honeymoon Itinerary: Romantic Routes from Venice to Capri (3x Options)

Looking for the perfect 10-day Italy honeymoon itinerary? If you’ve chosen to honeymoon in Italy, you’ve made an amazing decision! Italy is one of my favourite places… it’s easily one of the best and most romantic destinations in Europe.

There’s so much to see, do and experience in Italy… It’s a country that has unique cities and gorgeous scenery. There are also beautiful beaches, amazing hiking trails and the most delicious food.

But with so many beautiful places to choose from, deciding where to spend your time can feel overwhelming. That’s why I’ve put together three different 10-day Italy honeymoon itineraries – each one offering a unique way to experience the country’s best highlights.

Whether you’re drawn to the romantic cities of the north, the sun-drenched southern coast, or a mix of culture and countryside, these routes will help you plan the most magical honeymoon.

Why follow these Italy honeymoon itineraries?

From Venice and Rome to cute coastal villages, there are probably a million places on your Italy bucket list.

BUT if you only have time for a 10-day honeymoon in Italy, I don’t recommend cramming everything into one trip. You definitely can’t see the whole of the country in ten days – but you can still see a lot.

I’ve put together these itineraries to help you make the most of each region. You’ll see the best parts in each place and also have time to savour and fully take in the destinations along the route.

What to expect on a honeymoon to Italy

I absolutely love Italy – I’ve been 6 times so far and keep wanting to go back! It’s a great destination no matter your interests or travel style.

Italy is one of the world’s most popular honeymoon destinations with so many pretty places to visit. From enchanting cities to breathtaking rural scenery and quaint beaches, Italy is so photogenic and so fun to explore.

If you’re dreaming of a honeymoon that’s equal parts romance, adventure, and indulgence, Italy truly has it all. Whether you’re gliding through Venice’s canals, sipping wine beneath Tuscan sunsets, or soaking up sea views along the Amalfi Coast, every corner of Italy is just perfect.

As such a romantic destination it’s ideal for couples who want to soak up that charm. Everything about Italy epitomises romance and feels like a fairytale setting for a dream honeymoon.

Ornate statues of the Trevi Fountain in Rome

Italy isn’t a huge country, but with so many bucket list destinations, there are a LOT of places to take in.

If you only have 10 days for your honeymoon to Italy, you need to have realistic expectations for what you’ll be able to experience during your trip. However, that doesn’t mean that you won’t still have the absolute trip of a lifetime!

The itineraries I’ve put together are all different and cover different areas – from cities to lakes and beaches. Hopefully, one will resonate with you or give you ideas as to which part of the country you want to focus on!

Plus, this 10-day itinerary can easily be adjusted to fit a different time frame. Throughout the itinerary, I’ve included optional stops and alternative suggestions so you can customise your trip without missing the magic.

How to get around Italy

You have a few different options for travelling around Italy. For most honeymooners, catching a train will be the perfect option. I recommend booking through RailEurope. It’s an easy way to buy tickets and passes for trains across Europe.

Trains are usually fast, clean and efficient in Italy and connect most of the major sites. They’re also relatively affordable (at least compared to UK train prices!)

You could also hire a car if you want more freedom to stop anywhere en route. However, I don’t really recommend this because it isn’t truly necessary for most.. although it can be nice to explore some of the more remote regions.

However, you definitely won’t want a rental car if you’re focusing on cities.

🚗 You can find the best car rentals with Discover Cars

In each honeymoon itinerary, I’ve outlined options for getting from place to place, so you can decide which is the best choice for you.

When is the best time to visit Italy

Italy is an exceptionally popular destination, so my recommendation is to avoid honeymooning here during the peak summer holiday period (July-August).

May to June and September to October are lovely times to visit when you’ll have slightly fewer crowds and still benefit from milder weather.

If you don’t want to (or can’t) travel in the summer. The major cities are great year-round destinations, but bear in mind that many of the coastal regions shut down during winter or the off-season.

10-day honeymoon in Italy itinerary ideas

A drone view looking across the city of Venice with its golden buildings and grand canal

10 day Italy honeymoon itinerary #1: Venice, Verona, Milan + Lake Como

Ok, let’s get to it! The first 10-day Italy honeymoon itinerary focuses on Northern Italy and some really romantic settings. Starting in Venice and ending on Lake Como, you’ll get to experience cities as well as breathtaking natural sites.

This is also an Italian itinerary that’s easy to navigate by train – each destination is well-connected.

  • Day 1-4 Venice
  • Day 5-6 Verona
  • Day 7 Milan
  • Day 8-10 Lake Como

Day 1-4 Venice (4 nights)

For this honeymoon option, you’ll begin your adventure in the gorgeous city of Venice.

In my opinion, there aren’t many cities that come close to Venice. I absolutely LOVE this city. Venice is a must-visit and I think it’s one of the most brilliant honeymoon destinations in Europe!

Getting to Venice

You’ll want to fly into Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) – it’s the most convenient option for international travellers, with plenty of direct flights from major UK cities as well as the eastern US.

From the airport, you have a few ways to reach the city:

  • Airport Bus: The ATVO express bus runs directly from the airport to Piazzale Roma (the main transport hub at the entrance to Venice). The journey takes around 20–25 minutes and costs about €10 per person.

You can either pre-book your tickets online to skip the lines on arrival (book here through GetYourGuide). You could also get tickets from the ATVO ticket machines in the airport arrivals hall.

  • Water Bus: You could also take the Alilaguna water bus straight from the airport’s dock to various stops in Venice – including San Marco and Rialto. It takes about 60–75 minutes, but it’s a magical way to arrive. It’s a good idea to pre-book your ticket. I recommend booking through GetYourGuide, but you could also buy tickets at the airport when you arrive.

  • Private Water Taxi: A private water taxi is the most romantic and seamless option. It will cost around €200, but you’ll be whisked directly to your hotel or nearest dock. You can book your tickets here.

💡 Tip: If you’re arriving late at night or with lots of luggage, pre-book your transfer online – it’ll save you the stress of figuring things out on arrival.

Getting Around Venice

Venice is unlike anywhere in the world – there are no cars, just canals, bridges, and cobbled alleyways.

The centre of Venice is completely pedestrianised, so your only way to get around is by foot or by boat… so make sure you pack light and wear comfy shoes!

The best way to explore is to walk and wander, getting a little lost as you go. That said, you’ll probably use a mix of vaporetto boats (public water buses) and the occasional water taxi to get around:

  • Vaporetto (Public Water Bus): The ACTV vaporetto network runs throughout the city and to surrounding islands like Murano and Burano. A standard 75-minute ticket costs €9.50, or you can buy a multiple day pass. You can buy tickets through the AVM Venezia Official App or on GetYourGuide.

  • Water Taxi: For a more romantic and convenient option (especially with luggage), you can catch (or pre-book) a private water taxi. They’re more expensive, but it’s a magical experience for honeymooners. Water taxis are stationed at most major canals and docks so you can simply wave one down and tell the driver your destination.

  • On Foot: Venice is compact, and most main sights are within a 30-minute walk of each other.

💡 Tip: Plan to explore early in the morning or later in the evening when the day-trippers have left – that’s when Venice feels its most romantic.

Things to see & do in Venice

You could easily spend an entire week but 3-4 days in Venice will give you the chance to enjoy the best bits and take in the magical vibe.

One of the best things about this city is its atmosphere. It’s a lovely destination to simply wander around – taking in the beauty at every turn.

As a unique city, Venice is picture-perfect so a lot of your honeymoon will be spent admiring the gorgeous sites, the historical architecture and the pretty canals and labyrinth of streets. This is also a city that’s bursting with history so there’s lots to take in.

Some of the key attractions that you’ll want to tick off your list include St Mark’s Basilica and Doge’s Palace. (I recommend booking tickets in advance so you don’t waste any time queuing). There are also great museums to explore in Venice – including the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the Murano Glass Museum

You’ll want to visit the outer islands like Murano, Burano and Torcello, too. Torcello is a quieter spot that’s peaceful and super pretty. This private boat tour is a good way to see the best bits of these islands.

If you’re on honeymoon in Venice you have to take a gondola ride too! I used to think a gondola ride was overrated and expensive but I LOVED it when I tried it. It’s an iconic way to explore and one of those opportunities that you’ll only get to experience in Venice.

If you want the easiest way of ticking off all the sites, this day tour of Venice will help you maximise your time with a full-day itinerary and included tickets. You can also check out my 3-day Venice itinerary and 1-day in Venice itinerary for ideas of how to plan your trip.

🌟 Have less time in Venice? If you need to condense your stay, I recommend skipping the islands of Murano and Burano and focusing on St. Mark’s Square, Doge’s Palace and a gondola ride.

Where to stay in Venice

If you want to stay in the centre of Venice (and want the ultimate romantic experience with a canal view room), I 10000% recommend The Gritti Palace. This gorgeous five-star hotel is right on the Grand Canal and has beautiful rooms with antique furnishings and opulent decor.

Day 5-6 Verona (2 nights)

From Venice, it’s on to Verona. As the home of Romeo and Juliet, this is a city that encompasses love! It’s also a quaint and picturesque city that’s known as a little version of Rome.

Traditional Italian buildings alongside a wide river and old bridge in Verona

Getting from Venice to Verona

It’s easy to reach Verona from Venice, making it a perfect addition to your honeymoon itinerary. Direct trains run regularly from Venice Santa Lucia Station to Verona Porta Nuova, with journey times averaging around 1 hour and 20 minutes – so there’s no excuse to miss this romantic city!

I recommend booking your tickets in advance so it’s one less thing to think about when you’re there. You can book your tickets online through RailEurope.

Things to see & do in Verona

A lot of people overlook Verona for Venice, but this charming ancient city is a great place to explore. It’s a small city, so you’ll have more than enough time in 2 days to take in the key attractions while keeping a leisurely pace.

It’s also a lovely city for enjoying some downtime – you’ll want to make the most of the delicious food and wine at some of the authentic restaurants.

The main draw for a lot of tourists in Verona is Juliet’s House and the famous balcony. It’s an iconic site and there’s also a small museum.

As a city that’s known for its beautiful, historical buildings, Verona Cathedral, Basilica of Saint Anastasia as well as the Verona Arena are all impressive and pretty.

If you love good views, you’ll also want to head to Piazzale Castel San Pietro where you’ll find panoramas of the city. I recommend going at sunset for extra romantic vibes!

This is also a good city for a leisurely honeymoon – there are places like the Giusti Gardens which is a lovely palace and classic Italian garden that’s really picturesque for an afternoon stroll.

If you have extra time and feel you’ve seen enough of the city, you could also take a day trip to Lake Garda from Verona.

There are quick, direct trains from Verona to Desenzano del Garda and Peschiera del Garda, or you could take an organised day tour.

Where to stay in Verona

I really love Vista Palazzo in the centre of Verona. This beautiful boutique hotel is really romantic with 16 cosy rooms that are perfect for honeymooners. You’ll also find a rooftop terrace with views across the city.

Day 7 Milan (1 night)

After visiting Verona, the next stop on this Italian honeymoon itinerary is Milan. Again, this is an easy city to reach by train – there are direct routes that take around 1 hour 30

Milan is an underrated romantic destination and needs to be on your honeymoon radar. There aren’t as many ancient architectural gems as other Italian cities, but Milan is a stylish spot to spend a few days.

A grand and ornate cathedral on a large square at sunset

Traveling from Verona to Milan

Like the previous leg, this journey is fast and convenient – there are direct trains from Verona Porta Nuova to Milan Centrale that take around 1 hour and 30 minutes.

You can book your tickets in advance through RailEurope. This means you can reserve a seat, get a mobile e-ticket and avoid queuing at ticket offices.

Trains between Verona and Milan run frequently – roughly every 30–60 minutes – making it easy to pick a schedule that suits your honeymoon pace. Because this itinerary only has one night in Milan, it can be a good idea to aim for a morning arrival to maximise your sightseeing time.

Things to see & do in Milan

As a city, Milan is a lot more modern than most Italian settings, but that doesn’t mean it should be overlooked. There are still romantic spots dotted across the city and it’s a great place to explore.

The postcard attraction of Milan is its cathedral. It’s the largest cathedral in Italy and is truly breathtaking. You’ll want to climb to the rooftop at sunset for the best views. You could also book a guided tour of the cathedral – this option includes skip-the-line tickets and views from the roof.

Next to the cathedral, you’ll find Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, which is one of the most beautiful shopping arcades… Milan is known for its fashion, so if you want to go shopping, this is definitely the city to do it in!

Milan’s bohemian Navigli canal area is a romantic spot to explore. This is a vibrant part of the city to wander along waterways, take in boutique shops and galleries, as well as enjoy an aperitivo.

It’s a part of the city that’s best at night with its bars and restaurants so it’s a great spot for a romantic meal.

Another area you could visit is Brera, which is an upmarket, artsy neighbourhood filled with narrow cobbled streets, charming cafes and shops.

Where to stay in Milan

Milan has so many chic hotels. Casa Baglioni is a modern and beautiful choice in the Brera district. It also has a Michelin-starred restaurant which is perfect for a special honeymoon dinner.

Day 8-10 Bellagio, Lake Como (3 nights)

After a week exploring 3 different Italian cities, the last part of your honeymoon is focused more on nature. There’s a reason why Lake Como is so famous – it’s an idyllic and romantic spot to end your trip!

There are a few places you can visit around Lake Como, but my recommendation is to stay in Bellagio.

A drone view across water looking towards a small town set amongst mountain scenery on a lake

Travelling from Milan to Lake Como and Bellagio

From Milan, you can take the train to Como and then jump on a bus or boat to reach Bellagio. It sounds complicated but it’s pretty straightforward to get there.

First, you’ll want to catch the train from Milan to Como. Most trains depart from Milan Centrale or Milan Cadorna and go to Como San Giovanni. The trip takes around 40–60 minutes, depending on whether you choose a regional or high-speed service. Again, tickets can be booked in advance here.

From Como San Giovanni, you can catch the C30 bus to Bellagio, which takes around 45–60 minutes, depending on traffic. You can get tickets from machines at the station.

Another option is to take a boat from Como to Bellagio. You have the choice of booking the ferry or a private boat, which will take around 1–1.5 hours, depending on the route and type of service.

For this, you can book through Navigazione Laghi which is the official ferry operator, but you will have to make your way to the ferry port first (about a 10-min walk from Como San Giovanni).

Things to see & do in Bellagio

Renowned for being one of the prettiest and most charming towns on Lake Como, Bellagio is an amazing last spot to relax on your honeymoon and enjoy the beauty.

For a small place, there are still things to explore in the area. You could visit the Villa Melzi Gardens or the nearby fishing village of Pescallo.

You could also walk to Punta Spartivento, which is the tip of the peninsula where you’ll find gorgeous views.

For a bucket list honeymoon experience, I recommend a boat tour on Lake Como. You can book a private tour that will take you past gorgeous lakeside towns, villas and the prettiest spots.

Bellagio is also a perfect place for leisurely strolls along picturesque cobbled alleys. It’s a great place to relax, soak up the sun and people watch at a little bar or cafe. You could also head to San Giovanni Beach

Where to stay in Bellagio

Hotel Belvedere is one of the most romantic hotels in the area. It’s located on a hill, just a short walk from the centre of Bellagio, and has an outdoor swimming pool and beautiful views of the area. You’ll definitely want to book a lake view suite!

10 day Italy honeymoon itinerary #2: Rome, Sorrento, Amalfi Coast + Capri

The second 10-day Italy honeymoon itinerary is focused more on beaches and the romantic Amalfi Coast.

For a lot of honeymooners, this is the dream Italian honeymoon with all the dolce vita vibes! It also starts in Rome so you can tick off the big bucket list sites.

  • Day 1-3 Rome
  • Day 4-5 Sorrento
  • Day 6-8 Positano
  • Day 9-10 Capri

Day 1-3 Rome (3 nights)

You’ll begin this Italy itinerary in the iconic city of Rome. For many couples, this capital is an absolute must.

There are two airports in Rome – Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and Ciampino Airport (CIA). Fiumicino is the biggest and serves the most destinations, so you’ll likely arrive here. But, some airlines fly into Ciampino.

Roman ruins in the city of Rome

Getting into Rome

You can get taxis from both Fiumicino Airport and Ciampino Airport, or catch a bus into the city.

From Fiumicino, official taxis have a flat fare of €55 to central Rome and they take about 40–50 minutes depending on traffic. From Ciampino, taxis typically cost around €40-€50 to the city centre.

If you want the easiest option, I recommend pre-booking an airport transfer to take you to your hotel. This way, you know you’ll be picked up promptly and it’s one less thing to stress about!

It’s also possible to get a bus transfer from either airport into Termini Station. I recommend booking these in advance:

Getting Around Rome

Once you’re in the city, Rome’s transport options include:

  • Metro: Three lines (A, B, C) cover the key tourist areas. Line A is the one you’ll probably use the most. It has stops near the Vatican and the Trevi Fountain. Single tickets are €1.50 for 100 minutes. At most stations in Rome you can also pay by tapping your bank card or using Apple Pay at the gates.
  • Taxis & Ride-Hailing Apps: Official taxis in Rome are white and metered. You can also use apps like Uber or FreeNow around the city.
  • Walking: Many of Rome’s highlights are close together. I find that strolling through cobbled streets and piazzas is often the most romantic way to explore!

💡 Tip: Consider a free walking tour to experience the city and get your bearings. I use this site to check out reviews and pre-book my space in advance.

Things to see & do in Rome

There are so many key attractions in Rome so this is a city break where you’ll have lots to keep you entertained. It’s a unique European capital and it has something for everyone.

In 3 days, you’ll be able to see the highlights and get a good taste of the city. The incredible Colosseum is the most popular attraction in Rome. From there, The Roman Forum is just a short walk away.

Elsewhere in the city, you could check out the Altar of the Fatherland which is an impressive monument with gorgeous views of the city from the top.

You’ll also want to visit the Vatican City with the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. It’s stunning! To make the most of your time, I recommend booking a small group tour like this one which includes priority access tickets to the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel and the Basilica.

Rome is a really pretty city so I recommend having some time where you simply wander around the city and get lost in the charm. Piazza Navona is one of Rome’s most famous squares and is a good spot to stop at a cafe and watch the world go by.

You’ll also want to check out Piazza di Spagna at the bottom of the Spanish Steps, as well as the Trevi Fountain

Other things you could add to your list include the Pantheon and Galleria Borghese, as well as countless food markets. You’ll obviously want to enjoy aperitivo and the tastiest dinners in Rome, too!

Where to stay in Rome

Hotel Vilòn is a lovely option for a romantic break. This hotel is close to Piazza di Spagna in Rome’s historic centre. It’s a really beautiful, boutique hotel with 18 stylish rooms. I particularly love the terrace suites for a honeymoon!

Day 4-5 Sorrento (2 nights)

After 3 magical days in Rome, the next part of your Italian honeymoon will take you to Sorrento.

There are several ways to get to Sorrento from Rome. Your first option is to take the train, with a connection in Naples. You could also go directly by bus, or choose to hire a car, which takes around 3 hours:

  • By Bus: Bus is my preferred way to travel to Sorrento because there are direct routes from Rome  with FlixBus. It does take longer than the train (around 4 hours, depending on traffic) but you don’t have any changes so you can just sit back and relax!
A view across a town on the Italian coast

Things to see & do in Sorrento

Sorrento is a lovely place for a Southern Italy honeymoon. It’s a charming coastal town, and a popular vacation spot with lots to offer.

Sorrento is also a laid-back destination so you’ll be able to relax, take in the scenery and enjoy gorgeous local food.

For things to see and do, Sorrento’s historic centre is a maze of narrow streets that are perfect for exploring and taking in hidden gems.

You’ll also want to spend some time in Piazza Tasso which is a main hub where you’ll find cute cafes and restaurants that are perfect for pizza, a glass of wine or some limoncello!

Cloisters of San Francesco is another quaint spot in Sorrento that’s well worth a visit. It’s known for being popular for weddings because it’s so pretty.

Sorrento also has several unique beach clubs where you can rent a lounger and umbrella for the day. There’s also Marina Grande which is a quaint and pretty fishing village.

When you’re staying in Sorrento, you’ll also have the option to visit Pompeii. This is one of the best day trips in the area. You could do an organised trip to Pompeii, but it’s also easy to get there by train.

Where to stay in Sorrento

Bellevue Syrene is an idyllic hotel in Sorrento with panoramic views over the bay. I love the terrace at this romantic hotel as well as the suites with amazing spa baths!

Day 6-8 Positano (3 nights)

Next up is Positano – a destination that’s practically synonymous with honeymoons. Known as the gem of the Amalfi Coast, this pastel-hued seaside village is easily one of the most romantic places in Italy for couples!

With its winding cobbled streets, cascading cliffside villas, and breathtaking sea views, it’s a must-stop on your Italian honeymoon itinerary.

Traveling from Sorrento to Positano

This lovely seaside village is on the other side of the peninsula from Sorrento so it’s easy to reach.

  • By Taxi or Private Driver: If you want to grab a taxi or go with a private driver, you’ll be able to travel along the iconic Amalfi Drive which has the most photogenic views. The journey takes about 45 minutes and follows a winding coastal road lined with jaw-dropping viewpoints and lemon groves.

(Just a warning that this road can be nerve-wracking if you’re a nervous passenger and don’t like winding mountain roads). If that doesn’t bother you, you can book your driver here.
  • By Bus: You can also reach Positano by bus (Sita). In Sorrento, there is a ticket booth at the Circumvesuviana station. Just be aware that you can’t buy tickets on board the bus.
  • By Ferry: You can also reach Positano from Sorrento by ferry, which is my preferred choice. It takes around 50 minutes and ferries depart from Marina Piccola Port in Sorrento. Journeys are weather dependent, but during summer you’ll get gorgeous views – especially as you approach Positano! You can book tickets on FerryHopper.

😍 Tip: Sit on the left side of the ferry for the best views!

Things to see & do in Positano

With its gorgeous pastel houses and pretty pebble beaches, Positano epitomises the romance of Italy. It’s one of the absolute best honeymoon destinations in Italy!

This is a destination that’s all about beautiful scenery, so a lot of your time on honeymoon here will be spent soaking up the romantic vibes.

If all you want to do is relax, you’ll be able to sunbathe on the iconic Spiaggia Grande Beach with its beach club with colourful umbrellas. There are also a few other beaches in the area that can be a little quieter – including Fornillo Beach and Arienzo Beach Club

If you want to head out onto the water, I love renting kayaks – it’s a fun way to explore the coastline.

You could also hire a private boat or join a small group tour to take in the views and visit scenic coves, caves and glittering beaches across the Amalfi Coast. There are also options for luxury sunset cruises which are amazing for honeymooners.

If you’re an adventurous couple you’ll love hiking and exploring the region, too. The Path of the Gods is one of Italy’s best walking trails and it’s so pretty.

You could also spend time exploring other towns in the area such as Amalfi, Ravello and Atrani. You could even do a guided Vespa tour between the main spots on the Amalfi Coast!

Within Positano, you’ll find some of the world’s prettiest and most romantic bars and restaurants. There are so many options that have beautiful views so they’re the perfect place to celebrate your honeymoon.

Where to stay in Positano

For a small place, Positano isn’t short of amazing hotels. Le Sirenuse is a dream choice for honeymooners – it’s a stylish, five-star hotel and one of the world’s most famous properties.

The hotel has a prime location, a Michelin-starred restaurant and gorgeous rooms. It’s an absolutely heavenly setting for newlyweds!

Day 9-10 Capri (2 nights)

From Positano, your Italian honeymoon continues with a dreamy finale on the island of Capri – one of Italy’s most luxurious destinations. This glamorous island has been a favourite escape for Hollywood stars and romantic travellers for decades, so it’s the perfect place to end your honeymoon in style!

A high up view point in Capri overlooking the coast and the island's rugged scenery

Getting from Positano to Capri

Capri is easy to reach from Positano, especially during the spring and summer months (April–October) when there are regular ferry services between the two destinations.

The journey by ferry takes 30-40 minutes and usually costs around €25–€30 per person for a one-way ticket. You can catch the ferry from the town’s main beach area. You can pre-book a ticket here.

Ferries and boats arrive at Marina Grande, Capri’s main port. From here, you can:

  • Take the funicular up to Capri Town (takes just 5 minutes and offers great views). You can buy tickets at the port kiosk.
  • Or hop in one of the island’s classic open-top convertible taxis.

Things to see & do in Capri

Capri is really beautiful with lots to see and do. Similarly to Positano, this is a destination where you can do as much or as little as you’d like.

There’s so much beauty in the surroundings of this island so it’s a fantastic place for a romantic honeymoon.

One of the most famous sights in Capri is the Blue Grotto sea cave, which you can visit on a boat tour. You’ll be transferred onto a rowboat to enter the cave – it’s really magical.

The Gardens of Augustus also has beautiful views. You could also walk (or take the chairlift) to Monte Solaro which is the island’s highest point.

This island is rugged with captivating landscapes so it’s an amazing spot for photos as well as hiking and exploring.

In Capri town, Piazzetta (Piazza Umberto I) is a great place to stop and relax – you’ll be able to people watch at the cute cafes that line the square. You can also go shopping nearby, or head to Marina Piccola which is the perfect place for the beach.

Where to stay in Capri

Capri Tiberio Palace has everything you need for a luxury honeymoon. This hotel is just minutes from the central Piazzetta and has romantic rooms, a rooftop terrace and a spa.

10 day Italy honeymoon itinerary #3: Genoa, Cinque Terre, Pisa + Florence

The third 10-day Italian honeymoon itinerary covers some truly romantic settings. You’ll start your adventure in Genoa, head to the stunning Cinque Terre before ending your honeymoon in Florence and the Tuscany countryside.

This is a honeymoon that feels very classic with a good mix of cities, beaches and traditional rolling landscapes.

  • Day 1 Genoa
  • Day 2-4 Cinque Terre
  • Day 5 Pisa
  • Day 6-10 Florence + Tuscan countryside

Day 1 Genoa (1 night)

Your third dream Italian honeymoon itinerary begins in Genoa – a port city in northern Italy that often flies under the radar but is full of charm, history, and local flavour.

It might not be at the top of most travellers’ Italian bucket lists, but Genoa is a wonderful place to start your honeymoon, offering a glimpse into authentic Italian life before you head to the famous coastal villages of Cinque Terre.

Several boats docked in a marina

Getting to Genoa

Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport (GOA) is a small airport, but it’s well-connected, with direct flights from London Gatwick, Manchester, and several other European cities.

From the US or outside Europe: The easiest route is to fly into Milan Malpensa (MXP) or Milan Linate (LIN), then connect to Genoa by train or car.

High-speed trains run from Milano Centrale to Genova Piazza Principe in around 1 hour 40 minutes. Tickets cost roughly €15–€25 per person. You can book tickets online here.

Things to see & do in Genoa

Seen as a gateway to the Italian Riviera, Genoa (or Genova) is known for its rich maritime history. Porto Antico is the heart of the city and has been made into a modern marina where you’ll find restaurants, museums and attractions.

Genoa’s historic centre is also wonderful to explore. Tucked behind the port, this district is rich in cultural heritage. It’s one of the largest medieval centres in Europe so you’ll be able to explore the maze of alleys, admire beautiful architecture and stumble upon unique gems.

Because this is a city that doesn’t have as many tourists, it also feels genuine and authentic.

Piazza De Ferrari is the grand main square and is surrounded by gorgeous buildings like Palazzo Ducale, which was home to the Doges of Genoa.

You’ll also find Renaissance and Baroque palaces (Palazzi dei Rolli) in the historic centre. 42 of them are listed as UNESCO sites.

Genoa is also a city that’s renowned for its amazing food (even by Italian standards!). Genoa is the city where pesto originates from, so if you’re a foodie, you’ll be in heaven! Across the city, you’ll also find cosy trattorias and romantic wine bars.

Where to stay in Genoa

Grand Hotel Savoia is a really romantic choice in the heart of the city, close to the port. The hotel has charming rooms and decadent detailing so it’s lovely for a honeymoon.

Day 2-4 Cinque Terre (3 nights)

Made up of five quaint villages, Cinque Terre is one of the most spectacular settings for an Italian honeymoon.

You can choose to stay in any of the villages (Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore) as they’re easy to travel between by train, boat or foot.

The village you pick will depend on your preferences – Riomaggiore for example is the liveliest while Manarola is quieter, more relaxed and romantic.

However, whichever out of the five you go for, you’ll have a great time! This part of Italy is beyond picturesque and really captures the country’s romance.

A small town with colourful buildings built into a coastal cliff

Travelling from Genoa to Cinque Terre

It’s easy to reach Cinque Terre from Genoa, with frequent and scenic train connections running straight down the coast.

The most convenient option is by train. Each of the five Cinque Terre villages have their own train stations and the journey takes around 1.5 to 2 hours direct from Genoa, depending on which village you’re heading to.

Tickets usually cost €10–€15 per person, one way. You can prebook your tickets here.

Things to see & do in Cinque Terre

As you’ll be staying in Cinque Terre for a few days as part of this Italian honeymoon itinerary, you’ll definitely want to explore each of the five villages.

Each is beautiful with pastel buildings and scenic coastal views, but they all have an individual character.

If you’re feeling active, it’s the most amazing experience to hike between several of the villages.

As a coastal location, you’ll be able to spend time on the waters around Cinque Terre, too. You could hire kayaks, take a boat tour or book a sunset cruise.

Plus, you can sunbathe and swim around the region as well. Monterosso has a sandy beach, while the other villages have pebbly coves, old harbours and rocky (but pretty!) spots for relaxing.

Where to stay in Cinque Terre

There’s not a lot of flashy luxury in Cinque Terre but the accommodation has a lot of charm. In Manarola, La Torretta Lodge is a lovely choice that’s authentic and super pretty.

Day 5 Pisa (1 night)

After exploring the colorful cliffside villages of Cinque Terre, your Italian honeymoon continues inland to Pisa for one night. As one of the smaller cities in the region, there isn’t as much to do here, but there are still iconic landmarks and beautiful sites to take in.

It’s also a good option on this Italian itinerary as it helps break up the onward journey to Florence.

Getting to Pisa

From Cinque Terre, there are a few direct trains from Monterosso to Pisa Centrale. Journeys take around 1 hour 20 minutes, depending on the service and cost roughly €10–€15 per person. You can book your tickets here.

If you’re coming from another Cinque Terre village, you can also connect at La Spezia.

Things to see & do in Pisa

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is the most famous attraction in the city. You’ll also want to take in the beautiful Baptistery and Cattedrale di Pisa – they’re all located in the same Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles).

This is also a lovely setting for enjoying a sunny afternoon, relaxing and taking in all the grand architecture!

During your stay, you could also visit Borgo Stretto, which is a pretty shopping street with lovely old pastel buildings. You’ll find cute boutiques, cafes and little squares around the area to explore.

You’ll be able to enjoy the tastiest local food in Pisa, too. Your options include joining a cooking class or food tour, heading to a gelateria and enjoying a delicious meal at an authentic Italian restaurant.

Where to stay in Pisa

Rinascimento is a romantic B&B in the heart of Pisa. This hotel is unique and pretty with everything you need for a short and sweet stay.

Day 6-10 Florence & Tuscan countryside (5 nights)

After Pisa, there are a few options for the next part of your itinerary. Either, you can head to Florence and stay there for the entire duration. Or, you could do 3 nights in Florence, followed by 2 nights at a luxury hotel in the Tuscan countryside.

A lot of this will depend on your budget (rural hotels are more spendy) and also whether you have itchy feet and would rather stay in the city.

Personally, I think that a few nights in a gorgeous Tuscan villa or farmhouse would be dreamy for a honeymoon, but you can decide what’s best for you! You might feel it’s better to have one base in Florence and explore the surrounding area from there.

Traveling from Pisa to Florence

Getting to Florence is simple, quick, and stress-free. Catching the train is the best option. Trains between Pisa and Florence are direct, frequent, and affordable, making this one of the most convenient travel legs on your honeymoon.

Journeys take around an hour and depart from Pisa Centrale. You’ll arrive at Firenze Santa Maria Novella which is right in the heart of Florence, within walking distance of most hotels and main attractions.

Tickets cost around €10-15 per person and can be prebooked here.

If you’re driving, it takes around 1 hour 30 min to get between Pisa and Florence.

Things to do in Florence & the Tuscany countryside

Florence is one of the country’s most romantic cities so it’s one of the best places to end your honeymoon in Italy.

The city is recognised as the birthplace of the Renaissance, so it’s filled with art, architecture and cultural landmarks.

Florence is charming, enchanting and has everything you could want for a dream couple’s escape. It’s also compact and walkable with quaint streets, so it’s a perfect place for leisurely strolls.

It’s an absolutely gorgeous city and a great setting for a relaxed and romantic city break in Italy!

Within the city, you can’t miss the cathedral. It’s well worth the climb to the top for views across the city’s terracotta rooftops. If you love a good view, you could also climb Giotto’s Bell Tower, which looks towards the cathedral dome.

The Boboli Gardens or Bardini Gardens are also perfect to explore. You can also amble across the Ponte Vecchio. This lovely old, pedestrianised bridge is filled with little shops and is an iconic attraction in Florence.

There are loads of museums and galleries to take your pick of in Florence, too. If you love art, the Uffizi Gallery is the most famous and is home to works by Leonardo da Vinci and Botticelli among others.

Accademia Gallery is also an amazing visit – it’s where you can see Michelangelo’s David.

Alternative: Don’t have time for both Uffizi and Accademia? Prioritise the Uffizi for art lovers, or take a walking tour of the historic centre instead.

Foodies will be in love in Florence, too. You’ll definitely want to visit Mercato Centrale, where you can buy fresh, local produce, and grab something to eat from one of the food outlets.

Florence is one of the best places for dining in Italy – you’ll be able to gorge on the tastiest food and wine! You’ll have the chance to go to a rooftop bar too for perfect sunset views.

If you’re choosing to stay in Florence for the remainder of your honeymoon, there are plenty of day trips out into the countryside so you can experience the glorious scenery.

From vineyard and Vespa tours to trips to nearby Tuscan towns and cities, there are loads of options you could join.

If you’ve decided to spend your last few days in the countryside, you’ll likely want to enjoy the scenery from your luxury accommodation.

Some hotels offer activities and excursions like horse riding and wine tasting. You could also hire a Vespa if you want to get out and explore.

Where to stay in Florence & Tuscany

In Florence, Villa Cora is a classic and peaceful hotel. It’s located just outside the centre in a prime position and offers opulent luxury. It’s a really gorgeous property that feels like it was made for a honeymoon – it encompasses Italian romance perfectly!

Away from Florence and out in the glorious countryside, a heavenly boutique option is Borgo Santo Pietro. This is the most beautiful hotel but it’s one you’ll probably want to hire a car to get to – it’s about 1hr30 away from Florence.

This hotel is set in a sprawling estate – it’s super idyllic with breathtaking views. You’ll also find a Michelin-starred restaurant, a dreamy spa and gorgeous infinity pool. It’s perfect for a fairytale honeymoon.

Alternative itinerary lengths

Not everyone has exactly 10 days for a honeymoon in Italy – and that’s okay! Here’s how to adjust each itinerary to fit 7, 9 or 11+ days while still enjoying the highlights:

DaysItinerary #1 (Venice → Verona → Milan + Lake Como)Itinerary #2 (Rome → Sorrento → Amalfi Coast + Capri)Itinerary #3 (Genoa → Cinque Terre → Pisa + Florence)
>7 DaysSkip Milan and reduce nights in Verona to shorten travel; focus on Venice → Verona + Lake Como.Skip Positano + visit on a day trip from Sorrento; focus on Rome → Sorrento + Capri.Skip Genoa + Pisa; focus on Cinque Terre → Florence.

Italy honeymoon itinerary FAQs

Is Italy a good honeymoon destination?

Italy is hands down one of the world’s best honeymoon destinations. As a country, it’s thoroughly charming and boasts a ridiculous number of fairytale settings. Whichever itinerary you choose to follow, you’ll find so many sights and cities that are utterly gorgeous!

This is also a destination that’s amazing if you want a luxury honeymoon – you’ll find decadent and romantic hotels that will give you that once-in-a-lifetime experience.

It’s also a great option if you want to mix romance with adventure by travelling to several parts of the country. There really is no doubt that Italy is an exceptional choice for a dream honeymoon!

How much of Italy can you see in 10 days?

It’s possible to squeeze a lot into a 10-day Italian honeymoon, BUT that’s not what I’d recommend.

As you can see from these honeymoon itineraries, it’s a lot better to choose a specific region, or just a few places, and enjoy them properly rather than skipping quickly from place to place. It also means you can take it easy on your honeymoon and minimise any stress!

Is travelling around Italy better than staying in one place?

That’s completely up to you! It depends a lot on where you’re travelling from and what you want most for your honeymoon. If you’re travelling long haul to reach Italy, you might want to see more of the country and maximise your trip.

If you’ve been before, or you live somewhere that’s within easy reach, (or you want a more relaxing honeymoon), you might be happier sticking to just one city or area.

How many days do you need for a romantic honeymoon in Italy?

Ideally, I’d recommend a 2 week Italy honeymoon itinerary, but it’s perfectly doable in 10 days. Even if you’re limited to just a week, it’s still possible to honeymoon in Italy and have an amazing time!

If you only have 7 days in Italy, you’ll probably want to stay in just one location and opt for day trips if you want more to explore.

Which part of Italy is best for a honeymoon?

All of Italy has my heart and has so many incredible honeymoon settings. If you want lots to see and do, you’ll love the cities like Venice, Florence and Rome.

For the quintessential Italian honeymoon experience, you can’t go wrong with the Amalfi Coast or Cinque Terre. There are so many idyllic and postcard-perfect places that wherever you choose it’ll be perfect!

Is Italy expensive for a honeymoon?

This really depends on your travel style. Apart from some of the major tourist sites, Italy can be reasonably affordable.

If you’re travelling from the UK, flights to Italy are generally good value. Plus, travelling around the country by train is budget friendly.

However, lots of the honeymoon destinations in Italy come with a premium. And if you want all the bucket list experiences, it can set you back.

As an amazing foodie destination, Italy is also the perfect place to splurge on Michelin dining experiences and things like wine tasting, which can cost a little more.

If you want a fairytale experience, you could also spend upwards of £500-£1,000+ per night for a luxury honeymoon hotel.

Is Italy worth it for a honeymoon?

Absolutely, YES! I really believe that Italy is one of the best and most romantic countries in Europe. If you’re travelling from the US, or any long-haul destination, Italy is a bucket list vacation with so many gorgeous spots for an unforgettable honeymoon.

If you’re dreaming of a really romantic experience where you still have lots to see and do, Italy ticks the right boxes. And, with the most gorgeous hotels, delicious food and a laid-back and charming atmosphere, it’s a real winner.
