Best beach honeymoon destinations
1 Maldives
First on the list of best honeymoon destinations for 2025 had to be the Maldives. There’s a reason why so many couples choose this tropical paradise – it’s beautiful, it’s romantic and it’s a perfect choice if you want to de-stress after wedding planning.
This is a destination that’s easily one of the best places to honeymoon in the world and I’m pretty sure it will keep winning that title. It feels like it was created for newlyweds with the dreamiest resorts and the most breathtaking, postcard settings.
Unfortunately, a honeymoon to the Maldives doesn’t often come cheap, but if you have the cash – this is the one for you! You’ll find the most amazing luxury resorts with overwater villas and everything you need to live your best island life.

2 Fiji
It’s no secret that I love Fiji. It’s an amazing destination for all kinds of travellers – but especially so for honeymooners. This country has so much to fall in love with and is an epic choice for beach lovers.
With over 300 tropical islands, Fiji feels like heaven. The most popular places for first-timers are the country’s Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands. This is a great region for island hopping where you’ll find picture-perfect scenery, crystal clear water, coral reefs and all the barefoot beach vibes.

Equally, if you just want to fly-and-flop or stick to one location, Fiji has you covered. There are SO many dream resorts and private islands in Fiji where you can spend your entire honeymoon. Many have romantic beach bures and some have overwater villas.
When to go: May to October
Where to stay: $$$ Tokoriki Island Resort $$ Navutu Stars Resort $ Oarsman’s Bay Lodge
3 Seychelles
It’s not hard to see why the Seychelles is one of the best places to honeymoon in the world. It’s often compared with destinations like Bora Bora and the Maldives because it has the most idyllic, paradise scenery.
This Indian Ocean country is made up of over 100 remote islands so it’s a fab choice if you want a beach honeymoon that feels a little more untouched. There aren’t a million things to see and do in the Seychelles, but that’s kinda the draw… if you want seclusion, incredible natural beauty and wildlife – this is a great option!
As a honeymoon destination that’s all about switching off and relaxing, you’ll find amazing romantic resorts where you can focus on doing very little. The Seychelles is also known for being Will and Kate’s honeymoon destination so if you want royal treatment, you know where to go!
When to go: April to May & October to November
Where to stay: $$$ North Island $$ Constance Ephelia $ Le Nautique Waterfront Hotel La Digue
4 Mauritius
Mauritius is another destination with similarities to Maldives and the Seychelles. Because of its location in the Indian Ocean it’s an incredible choice for a honeymoon if you want palm-fringed, white sand beaches and beautiful resorts.
As one island (rather than lots of scattered islands), Mauritius feels more accessible with more to see and do than places like the Maldives or Seychelles. It’s also a more affordable destination!
Even though you won’t get the private island accommodation like you do in the Maldives, Mauritius still has amazing resorts. It’s also a vibrant island and a good option if you get itchy feet. Obviously, there’s snorkelling and scuba diving, but you’ll find lots to do on land, too, like hiking, exploring nature reserves and visiting cultural sites.
When to go: September to December
Where to stay: $$$ Maradiva Villas Resort and Spa $$ The Westin Turtle Bay Resort & Spa $ Lagoon Attitude
5 Caribbean
As a region, the Caribbean is synonymous with honeymoons. It’s brilliant for so many couples because of the choice of beautiful islands as well as how easy it is to get to from both Europe and the US. So if you want a stress-free option – this could be it!
There are 13 countries as well as 21 overseas territories and dependencies across the Caribbean, so you’ll find places to suit different budgets and styles. Regardless of which you pick – the Caribbean is heavenly! It’s obvious why it’s one of the best places to honeymoon in the world if you love beaches and tropical scenery.
For a lot of newlyweds, St Lucia, Jamaica and the Bahamas are top of the list of where to go in the Caribbean. These beautiful destinations have SO much for couples to love and feel really romantic. St Lucia in particular is one of my favourites with its jungle scenery and gorgeous resorts.
If you’re stuck deciding where you should go in the Caribbean, I’ve got a post on the best Caribbean islands for couples, which you can check out here.
When to go: December to April
Where to stay: $$$ Jade Mountain $$ The Cliff Hotel $ Bequia Plantation Hotel
6 French Polynesia
Bora Bora, Tahiti, Moorea… there are so many gorgeous spots in French Polynesia that are absolute honeymoon goals. It’s a country that has tropical scenery on point and is an amazing place for living your best island honeymoon.
As an exclusive, luxury and ultra-romantic destination, Bora Bora is usually the top choice in French Polynesia and is easily one of the best places to honeymoon in the world. It has the most amazing five-star resorts and vision board scenery.
Unfortunately, if you want a bucket list overwater bungalow, Bora Bora doesn’t come cheap but it’s a great choice if you want to splash out on something special.
If you want a cheaper alternative, or something more active, you could split your time between islands rather than staying entirely in Bora Bora. It’s possible to find more affordable accommodation in some of French Polynesia’s other destinations and you’ll still have an incredible trip!
When to go: May to October
Where to stay: $$$ Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora $$ Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea Beach Resort $ Niu Beach Hôtel Moorea
7 Thailand
Thailand isn’t just about beaches but it’s an amazing choice if that’s what you’re after. If you have the time, I definitely recommend travelling across the country on honeymoon – you’ll be able to take in SO many incredible places. However, if that’s not your thing, Thailand could still be perfect for you!
The islands in the south of Thailand are so beautiful and have some of the best beaches in the world. There are loads of destinations you could choose to stay in, each with a different vibe.
RELATED: Bali or Thailand: Which is Better?
Islands like Phuket and Koh Phangan are known for their beach and full moon parties so it could be a good choice if you want a lively honeymoon. If you want luxury beach resorts Koh Samui is fab. Otherwise, tropical islands like Koh Kood, Koh Chang and Koh Yao Noi are a little less visited and more relaxed.
When to go: November to March (Koh Samui has higher rainfall in Nov-Dec)
Where to stay: $$$ Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui $$ Anantara Koh Yao Yai Resort & Villas $ The Retreat, Koh Chang
8 Mexico
Want an all-inclusive beach honeymoon? I stayed at a luxury resort in Mexico’s Riviera Maya and fell completely in love. It’s a beautiful beach destination with some of the absolute best resorts so it’s a great choice if you want everything taken care of.
You could choose to stay on either the east or west coast of Mexico for a dream beach honeymoon. However, for most couples, the (east) Caribbean side is best – it’s where you’ll find Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum. The scenery is stunning and gives paradise new meaning.
There are tons of luxury all-inclusive and adults-only resorts to choose from around here. If that’s not your thing, you’ll also find cute boutique hotels on or near the beach – especially around Tulum or Isla Holbox.
When to go: December to April
Where to stay: $$$ Impression Moxché by Secrets $$ Palmaïa The House of AïA $ Tierra del Mar Hotel
9 Philippines
The Philippines is a bucket list destination and a great choice if you want somewhere that’s more affordable and feels authentic. You won’t find the same super high-end resorts like you would in the Maldives but you will get romantic beach options.
Places like Boracay and Palawan are popular spots for beach lovers. Palawan is one of the world’s most beautiful honeymoon destinations (and one of the best in Southeast Asia) with secluded beaches, dramatic limestone cliffs and jungles. I definitely recommend it if you want postcard scenery.
The most famous spots in Palawan are El Nido and Coron but there are other lesser-known islands to look into if you want more space to yourself. You could also go island hopping to take in a few different locations.
When to go: November to May (April to September for Siargao)
Where to stay: $$$ Nay Palad Hideaway $$ Shangri-La Boracay $ Dryft Darocotan Island
Best road trip honeymoon destinations
10 Australia
Australia is a country that everyone needs to visit at least once in their life. If you’ve never been before – your honeymoon is an epic excuse to book that trip and go!
As such a huge country, there is so much to love about Australia and it’s good for all kinds of travellers. When I visited, I loved how varied the country was and how much we got to pack into our trip.
If you have the time for a longer honeymoon (2+ weeks or more), there’s not much better than an Australian road trip in 2025. You’ll be able to take in so many settings and make the most incredible memories together.
Most first-timers to Australia travel along the east coast from Sydney to Cairns where you’ll get everything from cities and beaches to rainforest. You could also choose Melbourne, Adelaide and the Barossa Valley with a drive along the Great Ocean Road.
When to go: September to December
Where to stay: $$$ Sequoia Lodge $$ The Calile Hotel $ 202 Elizabeth
11 New Zealand
Like Australia, a lot of people dream about New Zealand and it’s an amazing option for a more active or adventurous honeymoon in 2025.
This is another place where you’ll want a lot of time – I recommend at least 2 weeks if you want to visit both islands. I spent a month in New Zealand and it still felt pretty rushed! There’s so much to see and do and tons of bucket list attractions so if you have less time, you might want to choose just one island rather than attempting to visit both.

As one of the world’s best places for a road trip, New Zealand makes an unforgettable honeymoon. A big draw is the natural scenery – you’ll get everything from volcanoes and mountains to lakes, fjords, beaches, rugged coastline and wine valleys.
When to go: November to March
Where to stay: $$$ Delamore Lodge $$ Stoneridge Estate $ Hot Water Beach TOP 10 Holiday Park
12 Canada
If you’re from the US or Europe, Canada is a much more accessible destination than Australia or New Zealand – but it’s no less amazing for a road trip honeymoon. Canada is one of the world’s most beautiful places and has so much for outdoorsy couples to love.
As a big country, there are tons of places you could visit on your honeymoon, but I usually recommend the western provinces of British Columbia and Alberta. These are known for being the country’s prettiest and most romantic regions with mountains, lakes and gorgeous national parks.
A popular road trip honeymoon is from the city of Vancouver to Calgary in Alberta. You’ll be able to take in key sites like Whistler, the Icefields Parkway, Lake Louise and Banff.
When to go: June to September
Where to stay: $$$ Fairmont Château Lake Louise $$ Four Seasons Resort Whistler $ Nita Lake Lodge
Best adventure honeymoon destinations
13 Costa Rica
Want tropical beaches, jungles, amazing scenery and lots to see and do? Costa Rica fits the bill! Costa Rica is an incredibly beautiful destination and is perfect if you want a back-to-nature honeymoon.
As a top adventure honeymoon destination, Costa Rica offers lots of bucket list experiences. Adrenaline activities are big here with things like rainforest ziplining, volcano trekking and whitewater rafting. You’ll also find tons of wildlife experiences with national parks and reserves to explore.
As one of the best places to honeymoon in the world, Costa Rica naturally has some of the most romantic accommodations, too. You’ll find incredible wellness resorts, beach retreats and secluded rainforest lodges that are perfect for couples.
When to go: November to April for the Pacific Coast
Where to stay: $$$ Hacienda AltaGracia $$ El Silencio Lodge & Spa $ Hotel Banana Azul
14 Iceland
The land of fire and ice is an incredible honeymoon destination. I love it for a romantic getaway, but equally for adventurous couples who want to experience new things on their dream trip.
As one of the world’s best honeymoon destinations, there’s obviously loads to love about Iceland. You could hire a car (or join an organised tour) to explore the Golden Circle and witness some of the most breathtaking natural scenery with geysers and waterfalls, glaciers and volcanic landscapes.
Thanks to the northern lights and long winter nights, Iceland is a really romantic destination, too! Whether you want to relax in hot springs and cosy up while chasing the northern lights or you want something more active like snowmobiling, ice caving and glacier hiking, Iceland could be your perfect destination.
When to go: Year-round (November to February for northern lights)
Where to stay: $$$ The Retreat at Blue Lagoon $$ Hotel Rangá $ Lighthouse-Inn
15 Indonesia
If you think of an Indonesian honeymoon, you probably think of Bali. This little island is one of the best places for couples but it’s not the country’s only gem.
Admittedly, Bali is pretty amazing so I totally recommend it for a honeymoon. It has TONS for newlyweds to explore with lively beaches as well as gorgeous rural regions filled with rice paddies, waterfalls, volcanoes and jungle. Bali also has a next-level luxury hotel offering with so many romantic (and affordable!) options.

However, if you’re put off by the overtourism in Bali, there are other places you can consider in Indonesia. Islands like Lombok and Sumba offer similarities to Bali but feel more authentic and adventurous.
You could also honeymoon somewhere like Bawah Reserve – it’s an incredibly remote, five-star retreat in the Anambas archipelago. It’s super dreamy and easily one of the best honeymoon destinations in the world!
When to go: May to September
Where to stay: $$$ Bvlgari Resort Bali $$ Natya Resort Ubud $ Camaya Bali
16 South Africa
If you’ve read any of my other posts, you’ll know I’m more than a little obsessed with South Africa. This was a country I’d wanted to go to for so long – and it more than exceeded my expectations when I finally visited.
As one of the best adventure honeymoon options on this list, you can bet that South Africa will be a bucket list experience. This amazing country packs a punch with its offering with incredible beaches and scenery, cities, culture and safaris.

I love the idea of a road trip honeymoon starting in Cape Town and ending at one of the game reserves in the Eastern Cape. You’ll be able to take in the super romantic Cape Winelands, travel the Garden Route coastline and finish with a once-in-a-lifetime safari. It’s perfect for couples who want a bit of everything!
When to go: November to March (May to October for Kruger National Park)
Where to stay: $$$ Delaire Graff Lodges and Spa $$ Amakhala Safari Lodge $ Amanzi Island Boutique Hotel
17 Sri Lanka
For a relatively small country, Sri Lanka has a lot to offer – there’s no way I could leave it off this list! This gorgeous destination is one of my favourites for couples who want a tropical island setting while still having lots to see and do.
As well as stretches of golden beaches, you’ll find fascinating cultural sites and ancient cities, tea plantations and national parks to explore in Sri Lanka. One of the best experiences is taking the train from Ella to Kandy.
I also love the idea of a safari adventure in Sri Lanka. It’s one of the best places for a safari outside of Africa where you’ll get the chance to spot leopards and elephants in their natural habitat.
You’ll also find incredible accommodation for when you want downtime – whether that’s a cosy safari lodge, an authentic wellness retreat or a luxury resort.
When to go: December to March (April to September for the east coast)
Where to stay: $$$ Uga Chena Huts – Yala $$ Malabar Hill $ Lankavatara Ocean Retreat & Spa
18 Tanzania
If you’re a wildlife or nature lover, there aren’t many experiences in life that are better than a safari. If that’s you – Tanzania may well be your dream honeymoon for 2025!
Tanzania is one of the world’s best safari destinations and one of the top honeymoon destinations in Africa. It’s home to the Serengeti National Park as well as the Ngorongoro Crater which are both hotspots for animals and wildlife. You’ll also find some of the most heavenly safari lodges to tick off your bucket list.
It’s best to visit Tanzania during the dry season (late June-October) or when it’s peak time for the Great Migration (June-August), this is when you could witness the most incredible natural phenomena.
Elsewhere in Tanzania, if you’re feeling extra adventurous, you could climb Mount Kilimanjaro on your honeymoon. Or, for a more relaxing option, you could end your trip in Zanzibar for your best beach life!
When to go: June to October
Where to stay: $$$ One Nature Nyaruswiga Serengeti $$ Mawe Tented Camp $ Clove Island Villas & Spa
Best city honeymoon destinations
19 Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Dubai is great for a stopover or as part of a multi-destination honeymoon, but it’s also an amazing honeymoon destination in its own right. If you want a city honeymoon that’s all about luxury and glamour (and amazing for winter sun) – you’ll probably like Dubai.
This is a city that’s known for its swanky hotels (with 6 & 7-star-worthy options!), so it’s perfect if you want to splash out on something a bit extra. It’s also a fab destination for doing as much or as little as you’d like.
If you want to explore, there’s loads you can do in and near Dubai – like going on a desert safari or visiting historical districts, souks and cultural sites. Equally, if you just want to relax, Dubai is a dream with its beautiful coastline and luxury beach clubs.
When to go: November to March
Where to stay: $$$ Jumeirah Burj Al Arab Dubai $$ Bab Al Shams $ Al Jaddaf Rotana Suite Hotel
20 Paris, France
If there’s a city that knows how to do romance, it’s Paris! This city is a dream destination for loads of couples so obviously it had to be included as one of the best places to honeymoon in the world in 2025!
I’ve been to Paris more times than I can count and I keep wanting to go back. It’s a city that’s undeniably beautiful and there are so many bucket list attractions to explore… If you love the idea of a honeymoon with lots to see and do, Paris won’t disappoint.
I love that Paris is a city where you can go at a slower pace too if you want a more leisurely honeymoon – think people watching at cute cafes, strolling through gardens like Jardin du Luxembourg, taking a river cruise and dining at fancy French restaurants.
You’ll also find some of the world’s most romantic luxury hotels in Paris – they’re perfect if you want to go all-out with an extra-special experience.
When to go: May to September
Where to stay: $$$ Hotel de Crillon $$ La Demeure Montaigne $ Hotel du Champ de Mars
21 Tokyo, Japan
Depending on where you’re travelling from, you’ll probably want to take in more than just Tokyo if you’re heading to Japan on your honeymoon. BUT as the capital, Tokyo is an epic place to spend a chunk of your time.
This is a city that’s all about fast-paced living. It can feel chaotic but there are so many reasons why it’s one of the world’s best places for a honeymoon. In fact, I’ve seen loads of people choose Tokyo for their honeymoon recently so if you get FOMO get it on your list because it’s one of the top places to go in 2025!
As you can probably expect, Tokyo has tons to offer so it’s perfect for couples who want a jam-packed itinerary. It offers a full immersive experience and is also great for culture lovers, food lovers and everyone in between. It’s also incredible for luxury with amazing hotels, Michelin-starred restaurants and swanky bars.

I can’t think of many places that are better than Italy. Admittedly, I haven’t been to Italy on honeymoon but I’ve been there 6 times because it’s so incredible! It’s a gorgeous country and it absolutely deserves its title as one of the world’s best places for couples!
There are so many romantic spots across Italy that there’s somewhere for every type of honeymooner. If you want the beach, the Amalfi Coast, Cinque Terre or Portofino fit the bill. For cities, you’ve got amazing choices like Venice, Florence and Rome.

You also have the most picturesque scenery in Italy with amazing rural accommodations. I love the idea of a honeymoon in Tuscany in 2025 – staying in a fairytale farmhouse, riding a Vespa through the countryside and having the tastiest food and wine.
When to go: May to October (expect crowds in July-August)
Where to stay: $$$ Le Sirenuse $$ Badia di Pomaio $ The Hoxton, Rome
23 Greece
Like Italy, Greece is one of Europe’s best countries for a romantic vacation so obviously it’s one of the top places to honeymoon in the world, too! Santorini usually gets the top spot when it comes to honeymooning in Greece but it’s not the only place I recommend.
Across Greece, there are so many heavenly places you could visit. Greece has some of the best beaches in Europe so it’s a great choice for a fly-and-flop trip. The islands of Crete, Kos, Kefalonia and Corfu are great for relaxing with luxury hotels for newlyweds.
If you love exploring or being on the water, island hopping is another brilliant option in Greece. One of the classic places to island hop is around the Cyclades where you can take in super pretty, bucket list destinations like Santorini, Mykonos and Naxos.

Where to stay: $$$ One&Only Aesthesis $$ Daios Cove $ Naxos Finest Hotel & Villas
Best cold weather honeymoon destinations
24 Lapland, Finland
Finland is a bucket list destination if you’re dreaming of cosy cold weather. Husky sledding, stargazing, chasing the northern lights… Finland has perfected the snowy, fairytale honeymoon.
In winter, Lapland is the country’s best spot for a surreal and magical honeymoon. If you visit before Christmas, you’ll find a festive winter wonderland (especially in places like Rovaniemi which is the home of Santa Claus). If you love Christmas and want a Hallmark movie-type honeymoon – it’s probably a no-brainer!
If you travel after the holiday season, Finland is still so magical. You’ll also find some insanely romantic accommodation with snow-dusted cabins and lodges under the stars.
When to go: December to March

25 Switzerland
If you want pretty winter scenery, you’ll want to add Switzerland to your list. Known for its powdery alpine peaks, this beautiful country is postcard-perfect and a charming location for a romantic honeymoon.
Skiing is a big part of Switzerland’s winter tourism so it’s a fab choice if you love hitting the slopes. But equally, Switzerland is one of the best cold-weather honeymoons if you want luxury with incredible chalets and heavenly spa resorts.
This is also a destination where it’s completely worth being extra on your honeymoon. You’ll be able to do all the fairytale things like horse-drawn carriage rides, staying in a palace and treating yourself to decadent fine dining!
If you want even more bucket list experiences, you could hop aboard the Glacier Express or Bernina Express if you head to Switzerland, too.
