Having a winter wedding and wondering what to do on your honeymoon? If a snowy break isn’t for you, you don’t have to delay your trip.

If you’re searching for winter sun honeymoon destinations, there are loads of places that have amazing weather during British winter (and some that aren’t too far away either).

The following destinations would be great from December till March when they boast blue skies and warmer temperatures.

So, if you’re dreaming of a sun-soaked escape, keep reading for the best winter sun honeymoon destinations to add to your list!

1. Maldives

What’s not to love about the Maldives?! This paradise nation is a favourite for good reason. It has to be one of the ultimate winter sun honeymoon destinations – it’s picture-perfect, super luxurious and has everything you need for a once-in-a-lifetime escape.

There’s no bad time to visit the Maldives but, if you want the best weather for a winter sun honeymoon, go between December and March. This is when there’ll be little rain, low humidity and beautiful blue skies.

🏡 Where to stay: If you’re after eco-luxury, Joali Maldives needs to be on your list. A gem in sparkling turquoise waters, this resort is the epitome of paradise. You can stay in a tropical beach villa or choose an overwater bungalow.

2. Tenerife

The Canaries are renowned for winter sun and make a fab European honeymoon. You can choose to visit any of the islands (they’re all great at this time of year), but Tenerife made the list because of its diversity.

As the largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife has a varied landscape. Incredible scenery is a given – the beaches are amazing – and you’ll also find volcanoes, mountains and sprawling national parks to explore during your stay.

🏡 Where to stay: Royal Hideaway Corales Suites has a chic and modern aesthetic that’s perfect for a stylish winter sun honeymoon. Right by the beach, you’ll find spacious suites with private plunge pools and breathtaking views.

3. South Africa

South Africa is becoming a top choice with newlyweds and is one of my favourite winter sun honeymoon destinations. This amazing country has it all – once-in-a-lifetime safaris, breathtaking landscapes and incredibly cool cities.

For jaw-dropping scenery, take a road trip along The Garden Route starting in beautiful Cape Town (where summer will be in full swing). While you’re there, plan a trip up Table Mountain, check out the eateries on the V&A waterfront and visit the penguins at Boulders Beach.

🏡 Where to stay: For a hotel with character, consider The Vineyard Hotel which is set in idyllic gardens. Just 15 minutes from Cape Town’s city centre, this hotel offers a haven of tranquillity after a busy day exploring.

4. Thailand

With its palm-fringed beaches, friendly locals and droolworthy cuisine, Thailand is a winner and is one of the best honeymoon destinations in Southeast Asia.

If you’re dreaming of soaking up the rays on sugar sands, November to April is the best time to visit.

For a beach-hopping winter sun honeymoon, head to Thailand’s west coast islands – think Phuket and around Krabi, where you can spend your days relaxing on tropical shores.

Make sure you visit Khao Sok National Park over on the mainland, too. This is a back-to-nature paradise where you’ll find lush jungle, limestone mountains and floating bungalows.

🏡 Where to stay: Rayavadee offers the best of Thailand’s scenery rolled into one. Sitting on the edge of Krabi National Marine Park, this luxe hotel is paradise surrounded by limestone cliffs, tropical gardens and emerald waters.

5. Dubai

Although it’s great year-round, Dubai makes an amazing winter sun honeymoon destination. December to March is considered the best time to visit when the weather is slightly cooler.

Cool doesn’t mean cold though – with a desert climate, you can still expect temperatures between 15 and 25°C.

A buzzy, cosmopolitan destination, a honeymoon in Dubai is all about glam. And if you want to mix city with nature, you’ll be able to go on desert trips from here, too. If you get the chance, book a night at a Bedouin camp to sleep under the stars – it’ll be an unforgettable experience!

As a popular stopover, Dubai is also brilliant if you want a multi-destination honeymoon. It would be an amazing option to combine with the Maldives, Mauritius or Sri Lanka.

🏡 Where to stay: Luxury is the name of the game so you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to finding your dream hotel in Dubai. Jumeirah Al Naseem is one to consider – it’s a contemporary beachside retreat with impressive facilities and views across the Arabian Gulf.

6. Mexico

From the luxury hangouts of the Riviera Maya to the boho vibes of Tulum and Holbox, Mexico’s Caribbean coast is perfect for every honeymooner.

British winter is the best time to hit up the beaches – your days will be filled with sunshine and warm waters.

If you fancy exploring the rest of the Yucatan Peninsula, your options include visits to ancient Mayan ruins, jungles and cenotes. There’ll be lots of time to celebrate at the parties in Cancun, too.

🏡 Where to stay: Away from the Cancun strip, Royalton Riviera Cancun is an all-inclusive resort with everything you need for a dreamy winter sun honeymoon. For an upgrade, go for a suite in the Hideaway at Royalton Riviera – this dedicated adults-only section is perfect for a romantic break.

7. Morocco

From ancient cities to vast sweeping deserts, Morocco has it all. Only a four-hour flight from London, the climate couldn’t be more different.

Despite having its coldest month in January, it’s still one of the top winter sun honeymoon destinations. The days are warm by UK standards – making it a great time to explore.

If you fly to Marrakech, you’ll be able to spend sunny days perusing the souks, gazing at palaces and staying in luxurious riads.

If you’re dreaming of a trip to the Sahara, winter is also a good bet when you won’t face dangerous temperatures – just pack layers for cooler nights.

🏡 Where to stay: Boutique hotels and riads are best if you want a more authentic experience. With 31 individually-styled rooms, El Fenn is a stunning option in the heart of the medina. When you’re not out adventuring, you’ll be able to enjoy cocktails on the hotel’s rooftop.
