Looking for ideas and inspiration for a 2-week honeymoon? With two weeks to play with, you have so many options for the trip of a lifetime!

I totally understand if it feels overwhelming though. With loads of amazing places to go, it can be tricky to decide on that perfect destination. So, if you’re not sure where to pick, I’m here to help you out!

As someone who’s worked in honeymoons for years, I’ve got the lowdown on the dreamiest places for a once-in-a-lifetime escape. From paradise islands to safaris and road trips, here are my best 2-week honeymoon ideas!

2-week honeymoon ideas

As well as your budget and the time of year in which you’re travelling, the big thing to consider when choosing your honeymoon is obviously your travel style and interests.

For some couples, a dream getaway is a relaxing 2-week break in the tropics. For others, it’s more about cultural immersion, epic adventures and unique experiences. So, to help you figure out the best places for you, I’ve broken this post into honeymoon styles.

1 Caribbean

A view across palm trees and lush jungle looking towards two volcanic mountain peaks in St Lucia

The Caribbean is synonymous with honeymoons. This region boasts gorgeous beaches as well as some of the most romantic hotels.. It’s a dream setting for a relaxing break!

Even though the islands share a lot of similarities, you’ll likely find one you prefer based on your travel style and budget. My favourites for newlyweds have to be St Lucia, Jamaica and Barbados.

St Lucia is easily the most romantic Caribbean island and has so much to love. It’s where you’ll find stunning luxury hotels as well as jaw-dropping natural scenery. You’ll also get all the honeymoon experiences like candlelit dinners, horseback riding and sunset cruises.

Many islands in the Caribbean are easy to reach with direct flights from the US and UK. This makes it a fab choice for a hassle-free two-week break where you can focus on relaxing and savouring the special moments.

2 Maldives

A resort with overwater villas on a tiny white-sand island in the Maldives

It’s hardly a surprise that the Maldives is one of the world’s best honeymoon destinations. It might not be the most budget-friendly – but if you’re splashing out on your honeymoon, I promise it’ll be unforgettable!

This is a destination that’s all about relaxing in paradise. It’s not somewhere where you’ll find TONS to see and do but that doesn’t matter when you’re in such a beautiful setting.

Renowned for its luxury resorts, you’ll be able to stay in private island accommodation in the Maldives – think overwater villas or beachfront suites, butler service and five-star amenities. It’s an amazing choice if you want a bucket list stay with breathtaking scenery and incredible water activities!

When you take travel days into account, I’d say that 10 days to 2 weeks is the perfect length for a trip to the Maldives. You could also combine the Maldives with another destination (like Dubai or Sri Lanka) if you want more than the beach.

When to visit: December to April
Where to stay:
Soneva Jani, Joali Maldives

3 Bora Bora (French Polynesia)

Vibrant coral and fish seen under the water in Bora Bora

Like the Maldives, Bora Bora is one of the most expensive honeymoon destinations but there are still so many reasons to go here. After all, if there’s ever a time to splurge, it’s on your honeymoon!

If you want to go all-out and have a once-in-a-lifetime paradise experience, Bora Bora ticks the right boxes. This little island that’s part of French Polynesia feels like it was made for couples so it will have everything you need for a romantic escape.

With iconic overwater bungalows, crystal lagoons and incredible snorkelling, Bora Bora is a magical destination. It sets the bar high and is a fab place for an indulgent trip!

Especially if you’re travelling from Europe, Bora Bora is pretty far-flung so it’s one you’ll need two weeks for. Once you factor in the journey, this will give you enough time to fully enjoy the bucket list experience.

When to visit: May to October
Where to stay:
Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora

4 Fiji

A sweeping stretch of golden tropical beach, fringed by palm trees in Fiji

Fiji is one of my favourite destinations and it’s an incredible choice for a 2-week honeymoon. With over 300 tropical islands, this is a country that has all the paradise vibes as well as amazing beachfront accommodation.

If you have two weeks for your honeymoon, you’ll be able to experience a lot of what Fiji has to offer. Granted, it’s a long way for travellers from Europe, but it’s still possible to pack a lot into your trip.

If all you want to do is relax at a luxury island resort – Fiji fits the bill. You’ll find some of the most romantic hotels in Fiji with private island resorts as well as overwater bungalows. They’re the perfect place to enjoy your own slice of heaven!

If you want a little more to see and do, Fiji has you covered, too. Island hopping was my favourite part of my trip to Fiji. If you have limited time on your honeymoon, island hopping in the Mamanuca or Yasawa region will be perfect. You can check out my 12-day itinerary and guide here.

5 Cancun / Riviera Maya (Mexico)

A woman (me!) walking out into shallow, crystal clear waters from a beach in Isla Holbox, Mexico
Cancun is perfect for all-inclusive honeymoon packages and day trips to places like Isla Holbox

There are tons of amazing spots to explore across Mexico. But, if all you want is a relaxing 2-week honeymoon, the white sandy Caribbean Coast will be perfect.

This is a region that’s super pretty and boasts so much. Luxury, all-inclusive resorts are common here and they’re perfect for honeymooners. We spent 10 nights at a five-star resort in the Riviera Maya and it was absolutely heavenly (we could have stayed longer!)

What I loved most about this trip was that we could do as much or as little as we wanted. If all you want to do is stay at your resort, it will be perfect – you’ll be able to spend your days relaxing in the sun, enjoying the beach and making the most of the facilities.

However, it’s also a fab destination if you want to do a little more. We took day trips to the nearby cenotes as well as Coba, Tulum and Isla Holbox. It felt like the ideal balance.

Because Cancun is easy to reach with direct flights from the US and UK, it also makes a super relaxing and easy-to-plan trip.

When to visit: December to April
Where to stay:
Royalton Riviera Cancun, Hyatt Ziva Cancun

6 Mauritius

An aerial view of Mauritius with turquoise waters around the island

Want to go on honeymoon in a destination that’s been described as heaven?! Lucky for you, Mauritius is exactly that! This tropical gem in the Indian Ocean is a seriously beautiful place.

It’s often compared to the Maldives but it’s a little different in my opinion. That’s not to say it doesn’t have the paradise scenery with incredible beaches and beautiful resorts (it definitely does!). Yet it offers a little more to see and do.

Unlike the Maldives which is comprised mostly of remote, private island resorts, Mauritius is one island that boasts lush rural scenery, stunning mountains and nature reserves.

As well as spending your honeymoon lounging on the beach or snorkelling and diving, you’ll be able to go hiking and explore cultural heritage sites in Mauritius, too. It’s a lovely choice if you get itchy feet so you’ll find plenty to fill two weeks!

Mauritius is also easy to reach, especially for those headed from Europe (there are direct flights from London). Plus, you’ll find gorgeous accommodation to suit different budgets.

When to visit: September to December
Where to stay:
Royal Palm Beachcomber, Constance Le Prince Maurice

7 Seychelles

A view looking across a brilliant white sandy beach fringed with lush palm trees and greenery
The Seychelles is one of the best exotic honeymoon destinations – it’s a tropical paradise!

Made up of 115 scattered islands, the Seychelles is a destination that feels remote, pristine and untouched. It’s one of the world’s most beautiful places, so if you want to be wowed by your scenery, it’s a top choice for a two-week honeymoon.

The Seychelles has a big focus on nature, beaches and getting away from it all. You won’t find a million things to see and do, but if you want seclusion and lots of quality time on your honeymoon, you’ll get it here.

In my opinion, it’s the perfect place to fully unwind and switch off from the stresses of everyday life. And to do that – you’ll probably want more than just a few days!

You’ll also find ultra-romantic accommodation in the Seychelles. Will and Kate honeymooned at North Island so if you want royal approval, you know where to go!

When to visit: April to May & September to October
Where to stay:
North Island, Denis Private Island Seychelles

8 Hawaii (USA)

A view across the sea looking towards the lush, mountainous landscape of an island in Hawaii

Hawaii is another destination that’s exceptionally picturesque. It’s one of the best honeymoon destinations in the United States and is filled with golden beaches, tropical rainforests and jaw-dropping volcanic scenery. There’s so much to love about a honeymoon here!

If you have two weeks for your honeymoon, you’ll be able to experience a lot. If you want to stick to one island (it’s hard to pick!) but I’d recommend Oahu if you want lots to do. Otherwise, Kauai is a brilliant choice – it has a wild beauty and can feel quieter and more romantic.

However, in two weeks, you’ll be able to experience more than just one island if you want to. Island hopping in Hawaii is an unforgettable experience and a fab option if you want to maximise your trip and take in several settings.

When to visit: April to September
Where to stay: Four Seasons Resort Oahu, 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay

9 Australia

View across turquoise sea and Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays in Australia

Ideally, I’d recommend 3-4 weeks if you’re visiting Australia, but I know that’s unrealistic for a lot of people. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t still experience a lot in 2 weeks!

This is a country that boasts so much. It was one of my favourite places to explore because it felt unique and varied. It’s an amazing honeymoon destination if you’re all about trying new things and having a proper adventure. It’s also one of the BEST places for a road trip!

🚗 Check out Discover Cars for the best car rental deals

As a vast country, you’ll have to decide which region or area you most want to explore in two weeks. It can be tempting to squeeze in as much as possible, but trust me, that’s not worth it!

By shortening the drive, you’ll give yourself enough time to enjoy the stops along the way. Some of the best road trip routes to check out include Sydney to Adelaide, Sydney to Brisbane and Brisbane to Cairns

When to visit: September to December

10 New Zealand

A bright blue lake next to forests and mountains on a clear sunny day in New Zealand

Like Australia, New Zealand is a bucket list destination and one that’s normally reserved for longer trips. However, that’s not to say you can’t have an epic 2-week honeymoon here, too.

From hot springs, volcanoes and beaches to snow-capped mountains, lakes and fjords, there’s so much beauty in New Zealand. It’s a breathtaking country where you’ll find a ton of experiences and amazing places to take in. It makes it an unforgettable choice for a honeymoon road trip adventure!

If you’re not sure where to go in New Zealand, my recommendation is to focus on one island and explore it fully. I was there for a month and it felt chaotic at times, so you won’t want to rush the entire country in just 2 weeks!

The island you choose will depend on what you’re most interested in. The South Island has the focus on mountains, lakes, glaciers and fjords. It’s where you’ll find Milford Sound, Mount Cook National Park as well as Queenstown. It’s an unbelievably beautiful and wild place that’s perfect for nature lovers.

The North Island is equally amazing but feels a little different. It’s the more populated and it’s where you’ll find the cities of Auckland and Wellington, as well as the Bay of Islands, Hobbiton and the Tongariro Crossing. It’s also the better choice for immersing yourself in Maori culture. For more inspiration, you can check out my 2 week North Island itinerary here.

When to visit: November to March

11 South Africa

An elephant walking in the road in front of a safari jeep in a national park in South Africa

If you’ve read any of my previous posts, you’ll know I’m more than a little obsessed with South Africa. I can’t get over how much this country has to offer!

If you’re after a truly epic honeymoon that takes in cities, beaches, wine estates and wildlife – this is the one for you!

As well as the obvious safaris, South Africa is an amazing destination for a road trip. The most famous drive is along the Garden Route – it’s beautiful and has so many romantic settings to take in.

In a perfect world, you’d have three weeks to explore South Africa, but 2 weeks is still a brilliant option here. My recommendation for a fly-drive honeymoon is to start in Cape Town, visit Cape Winelands and head along the southern coast to Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha).

This 3-week itinerary follows that route and can be adapted or squeezed into 2 weeks by reducing the number of days in Cape Town and on safari.

When to visit: November to March

12 California (USA)

A dramatic cliff with a tumbling waterfall towering over woodland scenery in Yosemite National Park

If you’re having a summer honeymoon a California road trip makes such a cool getaway. There’s tons to see and do in this state and it’s perfect for those who love gorgeous scenery, beaches, cities and good weather!

With so much diversity across the region, you can find yourself driving alongside the ocean, through mountains and via vineyards – it’s truly breathtaking.

The best drives in California go between San Francisco and Los Angeles – taking in the Napa Valley, Yosemite National Park and Big Sur. It’ll be an unbelievably scenic drive and a classic experience for your honeymoon!

Because you can start and end your trip in a big city, it’s also relatively easy to plan and is a doable option in 2 weeks. You’ll also find a great mix of accommodation along the way with boutique city hotels and the most romantic hideaways like Post Ranch Inn and Auberge du Soleil.

When to visit: May to October

13 British Columbia + Alberta (Canada)

View from a pine-covered mountain towards a lake in British Columbia, Canada
Canada feels like a unique honeymoon destination and is amazing for a fly-drive adventure

Canada is often ranked as one of the world’s prettiest countries so it goes without saying that it’s a fab choice for a road trip! With its wild expanse of beautiful landscapes, this massive country is the ideal place to rent a car and go on an adventure.

The western provinces are always my first choice for a Canadian honeymoon. They have so much to offer and they boast the most romantic natural landscapes. You’ll be blown away by the scenery!

It’s a good idea to start a 2-week Canada honeymoon in the city of Vancouver. From here, you can rent a car and drive to Calgary taking in the pristine wilderness of the Icefields Parkway and Banff National Park

This is a great route for a 2-week honeymoon and you’ll get all the best scenery with mountains, forests and lakes. It’s a heavenly choice if you want to experience the beauty of nature and do something a little different!

When to visit: May to September

14 Sri Lanka

A sweeping golden sand beach fringed with palm trees in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a sun-drenched island and one that offers so many incredible experiences. If there’s a bucket list destination that’s a paradise for exploring – Sri Lanka is it!

Sweeping golden beaches, rolling rural landscapes, safari reserves, tea plantations and fascinating cultural sites… are all found in abundance in Sri Lanka. It might seem like a relatively small country but it packs a punch with its tapestry of attractions!

There’s something to suit all interests so it’s a great choice if you want to experience a little of everything on your honeymoon. You’ll also find gorgeous, secluded accommodation that’s fitting for a dream getaway.

With loads to do, Sri Lanka is a perfect choice for a two-week honeymoon. This will give you enough time to see the main highlights and take in the beauty of your surroundings.

When to visit: December to March (or April to Sept for the east coast)
Where to stay:
Uga Ulagalla, Dream Cliff Mountain Resort, Tri by Amaya

15 Bali (Indonesia)

A private pool and sun loungers at a villa in Bali

It might depend on who you ask, but Bali makes a lovely honeymoon in my opinion! Yes, it’s touristy. BUT, it also boasts some of the region’s most incredible resorts for couples and has a ton to see, do and experience.

It’s honestly no wonder it’s so popular. It’s a little island that’s filled with natural wonders and rich culture. It’s also a destination that has something for everyone with beaches, volcanoes, rice terraces, waterfalls, temples, water activities and wellness experiences.

As an incredibly photogenic island, it’s a particularly great choice for nature lovers. You’ll find that the best accommodation makes the most of the scenery – think luxury villas and jungle hideaways with infinity pools for floating breakfast.

Ubud has a high concentration of romantic resorts so it’s my top recommendation for a honeymoon in Bali. However, if you want a more authentic experience, I suggest heading to the northern regions of the island to places like Lovina and Munduk which are (currently) much quieter.

Unless you’re travelling from Australia, it’s a pretty long journey to Bali. But even once you’ve allowed for travel time, you’ll still be able to experience a lot in two weeks. You could even add a few nights in the Gili Islands.

When to visit: May to September
Where to stay:
Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan, Viceroy Bali

16 Costa Rica

A pristine, empty beach fringed with palm trees and clear waters in Costa Rica

There are so many reasons to love a honeymoon to Costa Rica. Not only is it easy to get to with direct flights from the US and UK, but it’s a tropical paradise that’s bursting with unique experiences.

As one of the world’s best ecotourism destinations, Costa Rica is picture-perfect and filled with things for nature and adventure lovers. Lush jungles, volcanoes, unspoiled beaches and national parks – there’s so much to fall in love with.

If you want to get away from it all and switch off, Costa Rica fits the bill (it’s an amazing wellness and yoga destination). But, if you want an adventure-packed honeymoon, it’s also a first-rate choice with things like zip lining, white water rafting and trekking, too.

Costa Rica also has brilliant rainforest eco lodges, beach retreats and hideaways. One of my favourite options for a unique honeymoon is Pacuare Lodge – the best way to reach it is by rafting on the river!

When to visit: November to April
Where to stay:
Makanda by The Sea Hotel, Pacuare Lodge, Amor Arenal

17 Kenya

A close up of five zebras looking towards the camera on a safari plain in Kenya
A safari is one of the best two-week honeymoon ideas… just look at how cute these zebras are!

It baffles me that some people aren’t desperate to go on a safari. In my opinion, it’s one of the most unforgettable things you can do and one of the BEST honeymoon experiences.

If you’re dreaming of a safari one day, why not for your honeymoon? Kenya is one of Africa’s premier destinations and has everything you need for a once-in-a-lifetime escape.

It’s here that you’ll find the famous Masai Mara reserve where you can spot the Big 5, take hot air balloon rides and experience the wildebeest migration if you travel at the right time. It’s an incredible country for getting close to wildlife and is the perfect place for making new memories.

As well as first-class game drives, Kenya also has amazing luxury lodges with all the cosy and romantic vibes. They’re the perfect place for couples where you can wake up to the sights and sounds of nature.

If you don’t want to spend two weeks solely in the wilderness, Kenya is a fantastic beach destination, too. You could combine your trip with a relaxing break on the coast somewhere like Diani Beach or on a nearby island like Zanzibar.

When to visit: June to October (for a safari)
Where to stay:
Olarro Plains, Sala’s Camp, Ololo Safari Lodge

18 Italy

A view across a traditional, red-roofed village in Italy set in front of mountains

Italy is without a doubt one of the most romantic places in Europe. It has SO much for newlyweds to fall in love with and is an obvious choice for a 2-week European honeymoon.

Across the country, there’s loads to see and do. I’ve been to Italy 5 times and it doesn’t make sense to me to rush everything in one 2-week trip. Instead, I recommend focusing on a particular region or area to explore – you’ll still have loads to experience!

The options feel endless when it comes to planning a trip to Italy. You could take in charming cities like Venice, Florence or Rome. You could head to the Amalfi Coast, Cinque Terre or Sicily. There’s also romantic lakes, mountains and rolling countryside!

Everything about Italy epitomises romance so it’s a fairytale setting for a dream honeymoon! If you want inspiration, I’ve put together 3 different 10-day Italy itineraries that you can check out here for ideas

When to visit: May to June & September to October
Where to stay:
Le Sirenuse, Hotel Chalet Al Foss, The St. Regis Venice, Badia di Pomaio

19 Greece

A view from a villa in Santorini looking over a pool towards the sea

Greece is a bucket list destination and one of my favourite honeymoon destinations in Europe. There are lots of places you could explore across the country and two weeks gives you plenty of time to take in the best bits.

If you want to base yourself in one setting, I recommend the largest island of Crete. This gorgeous, sun-kissed island has so much to offer. It’s a haven for natural scenery so you’ll find some of the country’s best beaches (like Balos and Elafonisi) as well as incredible hiking trails and cultural sites.

If you want more adventure, 2 weeks is the perfect amount of time for an island-hopping honeymoon, too! The Cyclades islands are a romantic and popular choice for island hopping. You’ll be able to visit iconic destinations like Santorini, Mykonos and Naxos.

When to visit: May to October
Where to stay:
Stella Island Luxury Resort & Spa, Domes Zeen Chania

20 United Kingdom

A coastal walking path in Cornwall with views of fields and turquoise sea

I might be biased because I live in the UK, but I LOVE this country. There are so many magical and romantic places to visit so it’s a brilliant option for a honeymoon (or a minimoon if you’re a Brit).

If you have two weeks, you’ve got a good chunk of time to visit several spots. I recommend starting in London for a few days – the English capital is cool, cosmopolitan and one of the best cities in the world. It’s a fab choice for a luxury, urban honeymoon!

From there, you’re spoilt for choice in the UK. For the most romantic settings, the Cotswolds and the Lake District are super idyllic. Devon and Cornwall are also beautiful for a quaint English honeymoon with pretty fishing villages, charming cottages and picturesque coastal scenery.

You could also split your two weeks between England and Scotland. There are fast trains from London to Edinburgh if you don’t want to drive or fly.

In Scotland, Edinburgh is one of the UK’s most romantic cities so it’s great for a honeymoon. The Scottish Highlands is also an absolute must. You’ll be treated to breathtaking landscapes with mountains, lakes and fairytale castles – it’s picture-perfect, cosy and romantic!

When to visit: May to September
Where to stay:
Rosewood London, Eden Locke

How to decide on a 2-week honeymoon destination

The destination you choose for your honeymoon will come down to a few things – your budget, your travel style, and the time of year you can visit. Taking into account what you’re willing to spend is one of the easiest ways to narrow down your options.

You’ll also want to keep in mind the best times to visit each of your preferred locations (you don’t want to book a tropical destination during monsoon or hurricane season for example!)

Consider, too, how long the journey will be. If you’re headed from Europe, you can still honeymoon in places like Australia, Fiji or Bora Bora in 2 weeks, but you might prefer somewhere closer if you feel limited on time.

A view towards a tropical, palm-fringed island seen from underneath crystal clear waters in Fiji

How much does a 2-week honeymoon cost?

The cost of a 2-week honeymoon varies massively! It completely depends on where you’re going and the type of accommodation you choose. If you’re staying closer to home, a 2-week honeymoon could be significantly cheaper than 2 weeks in a five-star villa in the Maldives for example.

It’s estimated that Brits spend £4,300 on their honeymoon. That said, it’s possible to have a cheaper getaway by avoiding peak season or heading to more affordable destinations.

What are some budget-friendly 2-week honeymoon ideas?

Not all paradise destinations are the same when it comes to costs. Honeymoon favourites like the Maldives and Bora Bora are notoriously expensive, but there are alternatives where you can make your money stretch further.

READ MORE: 14 Must-Visit Places Like Bora Bora

It can depend on where you’re travelling from (airfare can be spendy), but destinations like Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines are relatively affordable in Southeast Asia.

In South America, Colombia is a budget-friendly choice. You could also head to some parts of Europe – Poland, Georgia, Portugal and Turkey, for example, can be great value.

What are the best 2-week multi-centre honeymoon ideas?

I love a multi-destination honeymoon (I have a post on the best combinations here). Some of my favourites for a two-week break include Dubai and the Maldives, Tanzania and Zanzibar, England and Scotland, and Iceland and New York.

A hammock and palm trees on a pristine white sandy beach in Zanzibar with turquoise waters

How many nights is the average honeymoon?

The length of a honeymoon varies a lot from country to country. In the US where annual leave is limited, it’s common to have a 7-day honeymoon. However, in Europe, it’s more like 10-14 days. It’s also not unheard of for couples to take a longer break of 3-4 weeks to mark the occasion!

Is two weeks too long for a honeymoon?

If you’re not used to having a lot of time off, it might seem extra to have a 2-week honeymoon. Yet, over in the UK, it’s completely normal to take 2 weeks off work (and sometimes longer for a honeymoon or special occasion).

I definitely don’t think two weeks is too long for a honeymoon. In fact, if you’re travelling long haul, I’d say the minimum you’d want is 10 days. Once you take into account the journey time, any less could feel a little limiting.

That said, I totally get that some have it better than others when it comes to annual leave allowance. And, at the end of the day, your honeymoon needs to work for YOU. If 7 days feels more aligned, then it will still be perfect!

2-week honeymoon ideas – final thoughts

If you’re splurging on your honeymoon, I know how important it is to get it right. Luckily, there are some truly incredible places you could go on a 2-week honeymoon.

Whether that’s a dream European break, an epic road trip Down Under or just some well-deserved R&R in a tropical paradise, you’ve got great options! I hope this post has inspired you and shown you what’s possible for a once-in-a-lifetime escape.
