Looking for the best organised Fiji island hopping tours? I don’t blame you! Even though I love independent travel, sometimes it’s nice to go for the simplest and easiest, done-for-you option!

Especially if you’re heading to Fiji where there are over 300 islands, I get that it can feel overwhelming trying to plan it all yourself.

🏆 If you’re not sure how to island hop in Fiji, I recommend booking Blue Lagoon Cruises’ 8-day package for the easiest & most relaxing option!

When I first visited Fiji, I island hopped with Awesome Adventures Fiji and it made things SO much easier. It took a lot of the hassle out of planning, and it meant I could focus more on enjoying the experience.

So if you’re dreaming of visiting several islands in Fiji like I did, I definitely recommend an organised experience. To help you out, I’ve put together my three favourite Fiji island hopping tours below so all you have to do is book the one you most like the sound of!

The best island hopping tours in Fiji in 2025

🏝️ Type: Small Group Cruise ⏳ Tour Length: 8 days | Check rates & availability

Blue Lagoon Cruises is first on the list because it’s the best choice if you want the most relaxing and laid-back island hopping experience!

Blue Lagoon Cruises is part of the award-winning South Sea Cruises Group, which is known for being one of the leaders in Fiji tourism. I also found out that over a third of all international visitors to Fiji use a South Sea Cruises product which is really cool – it’s one of the best options if you want a reliable company.

With Blue Lagoon Cruises, you can choose 3, 4 and 7-night itineraries through the Yasawa and Mamanuca Islands in Fiji. My choice would be the 7-day option so you can go at a slower pace and take more in.

What I like is that even though each cruise is based on a set itinerary, there’s a flexible element too so things can shift around depending on special events or weather conditions – this means you’ll get the best experience!

“Everything about this cruise was unbelievably fantastic. The food, cabin accommodation, entertainment, experiences on and off the boat were all first class. But more important than all of this were THE CREW ….words escape me to sufficiently describe what a professional and beautiful group they were.” – Peter (see more reviews)

Blue Lagoon Cruises is also a small ship (which I love!) with just 32 cabins and a maximum of 64 guests. Because of this, you’ll get a personalised experience as well as access to some of the most remote and beautiful places.

SO much is included in this Fiji island hopping tour so you also get great value for money. The cruise fare includes all daily meals (with sparkling wine at breakfast!), ship entertainment and use of snorkelling gear.

Plus, you get included shore excursions and activities, including a trip to the film location of Cast Away, snorkelling with reef sharks and manta rays, village visits and a guided tour of the Sawa-I-Lau Caves.

  • Regions visited: Mamanuca Islands, Yasawa Islands
  • Included transfers? Yes, complimentary coach transfers are offered on Friday departure days
  • Meals included? Yes
  • Included activities: Cast Away island visit, snorkelling with reef sharks, local village visits, reef snorkelling, cooking lesson, non-motorised watersports, guided Sawa-I-Lau Caves trip, swimming with manta rays (May-Oct)
  • Accommodation: Air-conditioned on-board cabins with a yacht-style en suite

🏝️ Type: Self-Guided Package ⏳ Tour Length: 7 days | Check rates & availability

Awesome Adventures was my choice when I first visited Fiji. This is a company that offers a range of inclusive island hopping packages as well as passes that allow you to explore Fiji at your own pace.

What I didn’t realise when I booked is that the inclusive packages aren’t guided or escorted tours – they’re simply a done-for-you package that takes the hassle out of planning.

So if you want more of a small group experience with a trip manager, this might not be the one for you. HOWEVER, if you just want the logistics sorted (or you want a more independent experience), it’s a brilliant option

“Fantastic trip for people who do not want to think too much about holiday planning. The resorts were great, as well as the staff who were all extremely friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend for anyone thinking about it.” – Angela (see more reviews)

Like Blue Lagoon Cruises, Awesome Adventures is part of the South Sea Cruises Group so it’s a good choice if you’re looking for a Fijian-owned, reputable company to book through.

Awesome Adventures offers a choice of inclusive packages ranging from 3 to 11 nights. I travelled on the 12-day Fiji Explorer package, but the 7-day Coconut Cruiser is the company’s bestseller and the most popular option so it’s the one I’m including!

Within your Awesome Adventures package cost, you’ll get coach transfers to and from Port Denarau before and after your trip. You also get 6 nights accommodation in 4 regions, transfers to and from all your island resorts, a range of activities AND a full-day pass to Malamala Beach Club 😍

What I also love is that with this Fiji island hopping tour you can pick your accommodation type, which means you can stay in private bures for a more upgraded experience.

If you want more details about Awesome Adventures, you can read the review of my trip here – the post covers all the pros & cons of the company and everything you can expect.

  • Regions visited: Mamanuca Islands, Yasawa Islands
  • Included transfers? Yes, complimentary coach transfers to / from Port Denarau from most nearby hotels
  • Meals included? No, each resort has a compulsory daily meal plan that needs to be paid on arrival
  • Choice of included activities: Snorkelling with reef sharks, marine biology tour, guided night snorkel, guided hiking, sunset tubing, local village visit, swimming with manta rays (May-Oct), guided reef snorkelling, Sawa-I-Lau Caves trip
  • Accommodation: South Sea Island, Barefoot Kuata Island Resort or Octopus Resort, Manta Ray Island Resort or Barefoot Manta Island Resort, Blue Lagoon Beach Resort or Nanuya Island Resort

*The resort you stay at in each region is dependent on availability at the time of booking. Activities are also subject to booking dates.

🏝️ Type: Bespoke Private Tour ⏳ Tour Length: 10 days | Check rates & availability

It could be that a private, tailor-made Fiji island hopping tour is more for you. You’ll find travel agents (like me in my other job!) who can put together a bespoke itinerary for you. But, as an example that you can check out now, I love this option that you can book through Responsible Travel.

The website breaks down a little of what you could expect on this trip – from exploring the main island of Viti Levu to heading to the Mamanuca Islands as well as beautiful Taveuni.

As a premium option, the itinerary can also be completely modified to make it your own.

I’m also obsessed with Responsible Travel because of their ethos. The company is one of the pioneers of responsible tourism, so they screen every holiday to ensure that each trip is as sustainable as possible and maximises the benefits for local people and places.

Group tour, island cruise or a self-guided package: Which is better?

Not all organised tours are equal so if you’ve never travelled in this way it can be confusing knowing exactly what to expect.

In the past, I’ve joined small group tours with a dedicated trip manager. On these trips, you stick with the same group throughout and you all travel to the same places together.

I’ve also been on organised trips where my transport, accommodation and activities have been planned for me, but you travel at your own pace.

So even though you’ll meet other travellers in this way, you might not all be doing the exact same itinerary or activities at the same time. You also won’t get a trip manager so it can feel a lot more independent.

Some travel agents can also organise private, tailor-made tours where you’ll have more choice over the things you see and do.

Which you decide to do very much depends on your travel style. If you want a more social experience it can be fun to join a small group tour where you all travel together.

If you want the ease of things being booked for you but you want more independence, a self-guided organised itinerary might be your best bet.

I also love the idea of a sailing trip or small group Fiji island hopping cruise. This would be amazing if you want a super chilled experience without the hassle of constantly packing and moving from one resort to another.

Do-it-yourself Fiji island hopping tours

A sweeping stretch of golden tropical beach, fringed by palm trees in Fiji

Admittedly, there aren’t a ton of companies that offer Fiji island hopping tours. Many that I’d seen in the past no longer exist. I also came across some that had the most AWFUL reviews 🫣

I also get that if you’re wanting a tour, you probably want the easiest, done-for-you options. However, planning an island hopping trip yourself can still be relatively straightforward.

If you don’t like the idea of any of the above options, you can check out my 12-day Fiji island hopping itinerary here. It shares my favourite islands and resorts as well as how to get between them.

Awesome Adventures Fiji Passes

It’s possible to travel between islands in Fiji by seaplane, helicopter and water taxi transfers. However, if you’re thinking of heading to the Mamanuca or Yasawa Islands and don’t want a tour package, I recommend grabbing one of Awesome Adventures’ passes.

These passes are essentially a hop-on-hop-off boat pass through the Yasawa Islands region. Passes range from 5 to 15 days and are a great option if you want to design your own itinerary or travel at your own pace.

You can go for the Yasawa Flyer Bula Pass which is the most basic option and just covers your transfers.

Otherwise, the Awesome Pass includes pre-paid accommodation. You can also decide on the level of accommodation when you book – including an upgraded option with lovely beachfront bures 😍

Best places to go island hopping in Fiji

The most popular place to go island hopping in Fiji is the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands region.

These islands are super accessible from the international airport in Nadi via high-speed catamaran or private transfer. Even though they’re pretty easy to get to, they’re so SO beautiful and feel a million miles from reality!

If you’re planning more of an independent trip to Fiji you could also consider islands like Taveuni and Vanua Levu which are a little less visited.

Fiji island hopping tours FAQs

What is the best month to go to Fiji?

The best time to visit Fiji is during the dry season from May to October. This is when you’ll get warm weather around 25 to 30°C and minimal rainfall. It’s the ideal time for island hopping and activities like snorkelling, diving and swimming with manta rays.

However, it’s one of the busiest times to visit Fiji so you’ll want to book early to secure your space at the smaller island resorts!

☀️ Fiji Weather by Month: When’s the Best Time to Visit Fiji?

How many days in Fiji is enough?

It depends where you’re travelling from as to how long you’ll need in Fiji. If you’re hopping over from New Zealand or Australia for example, you could get away with a shorter trip of around 7 days

However, if you’re travelling from further away, I recommend 12 days to 2 weeks to make the most of your trip. This will also give you time to enjoy a few extra days to relax pre- and post- island hopping tour.

What is the best way to island hop in Fiji?

The easiest way to island hop in Fiji is with an organised package or a small-ship cruise. A lot of travellers use the Yasawa Flyer which is a high-speed catamaran that stops at different islands across the Yasawa region.

Awesome Adventures’ packages include transfers on the Yasawa Flyer or you can book a flexible hop-on-hop-off boat pass.

Can you do day trips to islands in Fiji?

Yes – if you don’t want to move around so much, you can do a Fiji island hopping day trip from the mainland. You’ll find a lot of tours departing from Denarau with options like full-day island cruising, sailing trips and island passes.

Is it better to stay on the main island in Fiji?

If you want the best tropical beaches, I always recommend staying in the Mamanuca or Yasawa Islands (or at a private island resort) in Fiji. It’s not that the main island isn’t nice, but you won’t get the same beautiful beaches or the remote, postcard scenery.

If you do stay on the main island, you should definitely look into Fiji island hopping day tours to make the most of your stay.

Verdict: Best island hopping Fiji tours

Fiji is one of the best places in the world for tropical island hopping and booking an inclusive package or a small ship cruise is the top way to experience it.

⭐ ️If you can’t decide which tour to pick – I’d go for the 8-day Blue Lagoon Cruise. It’s a super relaxed option with so many inclusions!
